I agree Frans, there will be some heat transfer from the head to thins but not much. Pistons are cooled by the oil. Can I ask anyone who is interested in joining a Six Nations trip to get in touch soonest, please? You do not need to commit at this stage but I very much need to know potential numbers now for planning purposes. Provisional dates:20-28 August Regards, David Joyce, GXSDJ

We wrote an article in the Europa Flyer #82 about our EarthX installation (ETX36C). It is still working fine after 2 years. We test capacity at each condition inspection with a load test. Lead acid batteries drop to 1/2 capacity in two years. The LiFePO4 the load test still is over 100 minutes and hasn't changed since we did a benchmark test when it was new. As Remi experienced, this past winter we saw slower cranking and had a few instances of kick back while starting. This was because the battery wasn't fully charged. EarthX reminded us that their technology requires a charge voltage of at least 14 volts. We added a diode in the C lead to achieve that. Works great! We have not had any problem with the gas cap leaking and our Europa sits outside a lot during summer. We disassemble the cap each year during our condition inspection and lubricate both the outside o ring and the smaller o ring that is around the shaft using silicone. Subject: Dynon Pitot AOA placement
I did not research this on the forum before closing my wings - I thought that I would simply place the Dynon Pitot in the same place as the Europa original. I have received the dynon and it has a larger surface area that the europa item and therefore will exert more stress on the mounting point. it also has a larger "footprint" So the options I see are: 1. Putting the dynon in the same place as the Europa pitot but with some reinforcement ont he outside. I am assuming that if the europa pitot works in that position then the dynon should work too. 2. Making a new hole which I am loath to do. 3. I saw various options on the forum history including mounting the dynon on the wing inspection cover. Has anyone done this? thanks Will William Daniell LONGPORT +57 310 295 0744

I want to take a moment and acknowledge Raimo Tolvio who designed a bulletproof warning light system to indicate the status of our door latches. Now that my door gaskets are installed, its obvious, at least in my case, how easy it is to think the door is safely closed when the rear shoot-pin may not be engagedbut thanks to Raimo, when my doors are latched I have two green LEDs on my panel that are quite reassuring. I opted for greens when doors engage in order to eliminate the possibility of a false positive if the system were wired to show a red when the doors are NOT properly engaged. I also added a grip on each door to allow the pilot to pull either door inwards to facilitate proper alignment. The fun will begin soonthanks again Raimo, Fred

Shortly after I've bought my Europa "it" almost happened also to me, but we've managed to close the right door in flight. Never since that day did I forget to check prior to take off by simply looking over my shoulders and give both doors a firm push. Subject: Re: LiFeO4 batteries?
The experience on bikes to counter the poor low temperature performance with LiFeO4 batteries is either to leave the headlight on for a short while or just an initial bout of start cranking, to get the battery internally warmed up. In any case I find the Rotax starts better if cranked choke on and ignition off until oil pressure comes up. Then crank with ignition on, which would warm up a LiFe04 battery. Duncan McF. ----Original Message---- From: air.guerner@orange.fr Subj: Europa-List: Re: LiFeO4 batteries? I have installed a Super B 7800 Lithium battery one year ago to replace my 5 year old Odyssey PC545. It works fine but is very sensitive to the ambient temperature; in summer it cranks the 912S faster than the Odyssey but as soon as the temp gets below 10 deg.C it seems to crank slower than the old PC545. I did not have the opportunity to try at freezing temperature up to now. The battery is installed in place of the Odyssey on the starboard footwell (picture attached) Regarding weight and balance, I saved an impressive 5 kg, 4 kgs for the battery itself and 1 kg after removal of the lead I had bolted to the tail to keep the balance within limits.
