Yes indeed, it is a rubber snake replacement!
John
Yes please. Just confirm we are talking about the replacement for the
rubber snake from the top centre of the fuselage.

OK, so I'm biting the bullet on 8.33 and S-mode. My existing avionics sub-panel
is made from rather thick aluminium sheet to which the radio and transponder
trays are hung. Given the replacement kit (trig) is so much lighter it would be
overkill to use the same material. What do people recommend? - I note that carbon
fibre sheet is available in different sizes and thicknesses on ebay? marine
ply? (bit old school?)

I have used 2mm carbon fibre for all my panel and it is strong, light weight and
looks good.
I am guessing that you could probably get away with 1.5mm but I haven't tried it
and the 2mm works.

If anyone has a list of materials they have used, it would be very helpful to many
folk. The following fields would make it invaluable:-
Part Number
Description
Cost
Supplier
Maybe with comments like "don't touch with a barge-pole" or " works a treat!".
Perhaps such a thing already exists, but I have not found it yet. . . .
Currently I am trying to source :-
Bing Carb CHOKE NIPPLES
Carb heat water jackets
Exhaust copper plated nuts
Engine Monitoring System
Perhaps a wobbly prop

Subject: | ClearTerrain for iPad |
Hi Europa friends,
Flying in hilly terrain, it is often difficult to identify and plan for
good passes.
Cloudbase often influences the choice of route. Flight in the Alps, and
especially south of the Alps,
is cloadbase often very variable so it is a good praksis to find
alternative routes.
SkyDemon and regular aerial maps are great tools for planning but I often
find it difficult to find good clear information about the height of
valleys.
Because of this, I have developed a small app, ClearTerrain for iPad, that
use Google Earth for analysis and export flightplan to SkyDemon.
It is absolutely free and no advertising.
There is a small video clip on YouTube that gives an idea how the app works:

David,
Bing Carb CHOKE NIPPLES - Nipple 276 855 available from Rotax
distributors ($53.40 from Lockwood here in the U.S.)
Carb heat water jackets - Carb Heater No Part No. available from Rotax
distributors ($415.00 from Lockwood here in the U.S.)
Exhaust copper plated nuts - 8mm exhaust hex nuts 842 950 are available
from Rotax distributors ($1.19 from Lockwood here in the U.S.)
Engine Monitoring System - Grand Rapids EIS 4000 for Rotax (~$900, basic
or ~$1300, advanced) from Grand Rapids, Aircraft Spruce, etc.
Perhaps a wobbly prop - Airmaster Propellers from Airmaster or local
Airmaster rep.
Here in the U.S.A. Rotax bits and pieces are available from a number of
vendors. Lockwood.aero is my go-to. There are a number of others.
You=99ll have to find your own in the UK.
Grand Rapids makes a good engine monitor. I have installed it on a
couple of Lycomings and I have one on my Europa/Rotax 914UL and it works
just jim-dandy. It is available form Grand Rapids (grtavionics.com
<http://grtavionics.com/>) or various resellers like Aircraft Spruce
(aircraftspruce.com). There=99s probably a reseller in the UK.
It can be a bit of a pain to learn to use unless you connect it to a
graphical interface (i.e. one of the GRT EFIS). I=99m less
familiar with the Dynon offerings but they seem to work well also.
I like the Airmaster C/S propeller. It works well, is easy to use, easy
to install, surprisingly light for a C/S prop. It is an electric prop
rather than hydraulic. Which is one reason it is so light.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need further information.

Roger gave part numbers, if you call Con Air for Rotax parts just north of B
anbury, they will know your parts by name as well; of course CFS aero who ar
e now the main dealer, contact details in LAA magazine.
