Hi,
I have all the information you need on this as well as a stack of build and installation
photos (not my build). Send me your email address by PM and I'll forward
some info on to you.

Subject: | landing light - anyone fitted one, UK MOD? |
I have just submitted my paper work for my annual and had fitted a landing light
in the air intake. LAA have asked for MOD 2 for it. Fair enough. Has anyone
done this in the UK or the world to bolster the application? See pic of the sealed
unit I have used - high intensity with lens but only 250mA and sealed and
aluminium.
I have a job to get my engine beyond 80 deg most of the year so am not too concerned
about the small air obstruction to the water/oil radiator. It has its own
bracket and I have stiffened up the air deflector in a central area and bolted
in with two locking screw and so I think there is negligible risk of it coming
off and into the prop.
The Raychem wiring is routed up past the fuel pump where all is cool and over the
top of the engine so that should not be a concern.

Hello Carl,
A couple of other things you might like to consider...
You won't hear the same Services Outside Controlled Airspace that you do in the
UK (no Basic, Traffic, Deconfliction or Procedural) but if you remember the old
system, a Flight Information Service is probably what you'd be most likely
to want/need (maybe Radar Information).
http://airspacesafety.com/atsocas/
You can file a FPL online using AFPEx, but it uses Java, so won't work on a Mac.
You have to register (need your Licence number etc) and this takes a week or
so to turn round - allow time!
https://ts1.flightplanningonline.co.uk/applyingForAnAccount.html
The 24 hr Helpdesk is excellent:
http://www.myafpex.co.uk/feedback.php
I'm happy to talk you through setting up some favourite "here's one I made earlier"
FPLs, so you just choose one off your list, change the date, check & send.
I've attached a simple guide (which I found on a Flyer Forum) - it's pretty good,
although the sample GAR is out of date.
Try this for the latest GAR:

Hope this helps,

Subject: | Painting the Instrument Module |
Hi All,
I'm looking to paint my new instrument module in the next weeks. It's new, so it
currently got the "Europa Factory Gray" gelcoat.
I'm looking for advice/suggestions.
My thoughts are to go for a matt finish, to reduce reflection, and I am thinking
about a "Boeing Beige" in terms of the colour.
Can anyone advise, or offer experiences, as to what is the best colour/texture
for minimising reflections, but also is there any "gotchas" when painting on top
of the gelcoat... the last thing I want is for it to peel straight off [Laughing]
Best
Jon

I Painted with Matt Black spray can from local car shop. First dull the gelcoat
add primer and matt top to Finnish. Very cheep and easy to repair if you scratch
it. 4 years and it still looks good.

Hi Graeme,
It just so happens that I submitted a Mod 3 for a cowl based landing light yesterday.
I've been in discussion with Andy Draper about it and I believe there should
be no problems getting the OK to proceed.
My mod is for a very powerful 3480 Lumen LED light. I wanted something that was
going to have the ability to give me enough light to land on an unlit runway
or road in the case of an emergency at night. I've attached the doc that describes
the installation. I'll let you know if I get the OK.
Regards
Carl

Jon, Nextel produces a highly durable matt finish and has often been
used in this context. It is toxic, so either needs professional spraying
or for you to,have the right breahing kit. Whatever finish you choose
the base gel coat must be sanded down to a perfect matt finish before
painting.

Hi All,
I thought I'd give you an update on my progress with the mod to fit a Dynon heated
pitot/AOA probe.
I've discussed the fitting today with Andy Draper and he's given me a valuable
suggestion on how to secure it. I'm drawing-up the Mod 2 and 3 as I type. He raised
no major concerns and was very supportive. I'll let you know how I get on.

How is the black with temperatures? I'm wondering if it will soak up the heat too
quickly? However, your information that a matt car paint will adhere and not
peel is reassuring. Can you clarify what you mean by "matt top"; are you suggesting
a further layer on top of the matt paint? or just primer and then matt
layer?
I don't have the right breathing kit (well I assume I don't - I have a passive
filter nose/mouth mask; but a view at the Nextel page suggests it very professional,
therefore I imagine an air supplied suit would be what's called for while
using that) Also I'm based in Germany, and one off jobs like that, from professionals
can be prohibitively expensive. I'm tending towards a solution that
I can do in the home workshop.

I use SkyDemon already, so I guess it would be easiest to go with that so I create
a flight, produce a flight plan from it and file a wee bit before I go. I'll
have to remember to file it early enough to make sure the notice for the GAR
is taken into account.
Thanks you all for your help. I'm just waiting for good enough weather at the weekend
and I'll fly to Le Touquet first.

Subject: | Re: Airmaster prop problems. |
A couple of years ago I converted my Airmaster from AC100 to AC200 controller.
The AC100 was working fine and I still have most of the components.
There are three concentric rings of black "squares" at the rear of the spinner
and the detector attached to the side of the gearbox has three photocells aligned
with the rings to "count" the number of squares going by in each propeller
revolution. The rings correspond to Take-Off, Climb and Cruise rpm.
I did experience on at least one occasion at low light levels that the photocells
weren't detecting the squares, but I can't remember what the response was i.e.
did the propeller rpm go to fine pitch? That would make sense I guess.
Contact me if you want more help or info.

I think my controller may be like yours. Take off at full fine , then turn i
