Hi Glen
I run an NSI vp prop so no direct experience. But I do seem to remember
hearing that the Arplast was prone to corrosion on the single contact
that runs through the centre of the hub. It certainly sounds like the
symptoms the NSI gives when the slip rings have not been cleaned for a
while.
Good luck

Any ideas what could be the problem? I have been careful to lubricate the

propellers are approved for G registered Europas?

Glennthe power for the pitch change motor runs through the piece of piano w
iremounted behind the prop shaft and relies on good contact between that wi
re and the spinning prop. Check the insulation on the wire which must not s
hort out on the bore of the prop shaft, also check that the wire can move i
n and out without friction. If it isn't pressing firmly on the contact poin
t in the prop it won't develop full power.

Hi Glenn,
I did a partial panel change to install a Dynon EFIS a couple of years ago. As
far as I'm aware, changes on the panel are a matter between you and your LAA inspector.
Best wishes.

Jonathon,
You are quite right in saying that there is room for applying " Standard
Aircraft Practice" when designing your panel when this is not specified in
the build manual. LAA leaflet TL 3.10 explains this.
However, (there is always one these, isn't there!) there are some other
things to consider.
When your panel design was initially approved by the LAA they were required
by the CAA to satisfy themselves that you had complied with the regulations
regarding the minimum instrument fit for VFR flight in accordance with the
ANO and also to check the same for engine instrumentation. Once the LAA has
approved your aircraft build the LAA then submits an Airworthiness Approval
Note (AAN) to the CAA that is the basis of approval for your initial Permit
to Fly. Technically, if you modify your aircraft so that it no longer
conforms to the condition it was in when that initial approval was granted,
you have invalidated your Permit to Fly. Hence the need for a Mods approval
system in the UK.
When fitting an EFIS the LAA will want to know that you have considered the
failure situation of a system that now relies on electrical power in order
to comply with the regulations. This requires the fitment of a standby ASI,
Altimeter and compass as a minimum.
So, the safest route is to consult LAA engineering and your inspector before
changing from a traditional six pack to an EFIS.
Regards
Brian Davies

To all,
I have had a heart attack finally. I always told everyone I was scheduled
to die by 75 and I have beat the odds. I walked into the ER at our local h
ospital, explained the situation and told them I was a pilot and not just a
ny stint would do and that a artery blockage runs=85.. At that point, they
knocked me out and when I awoke, I was told they saved my life, where as I
informed them, I walked in here and told you what I was experiencing and y
ou never gave me a chance to get the right treatment. Now you=92ve put a n
on approved stint into an artery that is a hereditary blockage and killed m
y business and flying career. Needless to say a bit of an adversarial clim
ate ensued for a short while. I=92m not sure why? The blood thinners gave
me bleeding from both ends and that was a pain in the nose and arse. Stopp
ing the bleeding was in a word, BRUTAL.
Of Course AME extraordinaire Dr. Ira Rampil, researched my case and assured
me that provided I take drugs for the rest of my life to compensate for th
e type stint installed, I will be able to get back on flying status in six
months or so provided we supply a ton of paperwork and I am a good boy and
don=92t over do it. To be expected, and I am not concerned because I am ve
ry good at bureaucratic paperwork, the good boy, Anita is working on.
I am fine now, with no heart damage, as strong as ever, bored to tears, wel
l behind and now that I am away from the blunt force trauma doctors of a no
rmal hospital, am seeing specialists and couldn=92t be happier with my trea
tment to work around my now minor issues. Keep in mind, they only practice
medicine in hospitals, take some advice and get some specialists lined up
with your normal physical especially if you are concerned about heart attac
ks. I was too slow in preparing for my particular problem as my EKG and sc
ans were all fine in the past.
Anita and I am still planning on Sun =91n Fun from April 4-9 on site N-55 a
s last year featuring Airmaster Propellers. The Europa Club will be well r
epresented by Steve Pitt and Paul Mansfield. We all will enjoy seeing thos

Hi Bud,
I wish you all the best for your recovery. We all certainly enjoy reading yo
ur in depth postings and it would be a great loss to lose them.
You may be pleased to hear about the experience of a pilot friend. Some year
s ago he had 4 stents put in, after which he got his Class 2 medical back.
Then about 4 years ago he had 4 more stents put in (one inside a previous on
e even), and again he got his medical back.
Then 2 years ago he had a quadruple bypass op. Well it took him a lot longer
to get over that one but several months ago he got his medical back again.
Good luck

Subject: Europa-List: Sun 'n Fun, and a Heart Attack.
To all,
I have had a heart attack finally. I always told everyone I was scheduled
to die by 75 and I have beat the odds. I walked into the ER at our local
hospital, explained the situation and told them I was a pilot and not just
any stint would do and that a artery blockage runs... At that point, they
knocked me out and when I awoke, I was told they saved my life, where as I
informed them, I walked in here and told you what I was experiencing and
you never gave me a chance to get the right treatment. Now you've put a non
approved stint into an artery that is a hereditary blockage and killed my
business and flying career. Needless to say a bit of an adversarial climate
ensued for a short while. I'm not sure why? The blood thinners gave me
bleeding from both ends and that was a pain in the nose and arse. Stopping
the bleeding was in a word, BRUTAL.
Of Course AME extraordinaire Dr. Ira Rampil, researched my case and assured
me that provided I take drugs for the rest of my life to compensate for the
type stint installed, I will be able to get back on flying status in six
months or so provided we supply a ton of paperwork and I am a good boy and
don't over do it. To be expected, and I am not concerned because I am very
good at bureaucratic paperwork, the good boy, Anita is working on.
I am fine now, with no heart damage, as strong as ever, bored to tears, well
behind and now that I am away from the blunt force trauma doctors of a
normal hospital, am seeing specialists and couldn't be happier with my
treatment to work around my now minor issues. Keep in mind, they only
practice medicine in hospitals, take some advice and get some specialists
lined up with your normal physical especially if you are concerned about
heart attacks. I was too slow in preparing for my particular problem as my
EKG and scans were all fine in the past.
Anita and I am still planning on Sun 'n Fun from April 4-9 on site N-55 as
last year featuring Airmaster Propellers. The Europa Club will be well
represented by Steve Pitt and Paul Mansfield. We all will enjoy seeing
those of you who can make it down for some Fun in the Sun.

Subject: | Re: Sun 'n Fun, and a Heart Attack. |
I am sure that Bud will do very well and be back to flying by summertime!
Too many coronary stents are placed in the US.
Further, and relevant to the current discussion, there are
two different stent technologies: BMS and DES. DES currently requires
life-long treatment with powerful anticoagulants which I have often seen
lead to life threatening intracranial bleeds (which I had to treat), or various
and sundry other forms of hemorrhage, like Bud described, which may
sometimes also be life threatening. BMS stents are cheaper and only
require a short period of anticoagulants.
Witty observers of the current health care system have said that some
cardiologists view the human body as simply a delivery system for the
heart to arrive at the next cardiology appointment. The effects of DES-
mandated therapy like modern, potent, irreversible anticoagulants
on other organ systems are not often duly considered.
For a nice review of the situation, follow this link to a recent Atlantic Magazine
article. I should mention that I worked with Dave Brown for several years.
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2017/02/when-evidence-says-no-but-doctors-say-yes/517368/
For a recent technical journal article on BMS vs DES, there is this from the
New England Journal of Medicine:
