May you continue to have fun and provide us with still more great Europa insights and advice far into the future. Thanks for all the very helpful input regarding my Arplast Prop control problem and my panel query. I have the Smart Avionics constant speed controller so a battery is not the problem. I have also cleaned the steel pin that takes power to the hub, and checked it is has good spring pressure. Italianjons ideas regarding fault finding were very helpful. That is something I have yet to try, so that will be my next step. I shall wait in hope to hear something positive from Kevin Kenward regarding after market parts for the prop! Its that or eventually having to shell out for a new prop! I would rather spend that money elsewhere on my Europa. It sounds like changing to and EFIS panel will be a bit of a pain as well, ho hum! Thanks to all, Glenn Perry G-DLCB ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 12:12:51 PM PST US From: brian long Subject: Re: Europa-List: Sun 'n Fun, and a Heart Attack. Hey Bud, Sorry to hear about your troubles but I'm very happy it's all good now. Maybe they really did save your life even if it was not an FAA certified part. I have had pretty good luck with non-certified parts! All the best, Brian Long Dalton, GA On Wed, Mar 8, 2017 at 1:27 PM, Bud Yerly wrote: > To all, > > I have had a heart attack finally. However my expectations were wrong (again) on both counts. Exactly the same set of scales were used as for the previous weighing and as before the scales were accurately calibrated with weights made for the purpose. Also as before the fuselage was levelled by reference to the left door sill. The outcome is that the weight hasn't changed at all and the aircraft empty C of G has moved forward by only .03". Very strange! How to account for this? These are the significant factors to my simple mind: 1) The cowls are about the same weight as before and Nev's extended and simplified engine bearer frame is not much heavier than the Classic's. 2) The longer starter motor which I have installed is certainly a couple of pounds heavier. 3) The new spinner and its backing plate are somewhat lighter. 4) No longer are the radiators and oil cooler with their fluids hanging at the front of the cowl, but are now beneath the engine and closer to the firewall. 5) Although I never weighed them, the Classic exhaust system was quite a lot heavier than the XS system. 6) The new 8.33 KHz radio is a little lighter FWIW. 7) No longer is there an air box plenum attached to the carburettors. Having spelled out all of the above, I would really have expected the aircraft empty C of G to have moved forward by maybe 0.5". But I'm not complaining; just putting my observations out there for interest.
