ConAir Sports is no longer trading, therefore please be aware that we no longer
offer advice, engine work or mail order spares Skydrive has taken on our range
of spare parts. Thanks for your support over the years and happy flying!

Subject: | LG08 bushing replacement |
Last weekend we renewed the two bushes on the shock absorber top plate LG05 - something
of a struggle but doable in situ. We still have a little play in the
4 bushes of LG08, of interest more on the starboard side, and these will need
replacement soon also.
Has anyone developed a procedure for this task, preferably working with the LG08
in place, without having to tear down the whole gear assembly?
These bushings are understood to be secured with locktite, so we assume some heat
and a suitably contrived 'special tooling' will accomplish the task.
All pointers welcome.

Hi Glenn
I have just done all my bushes and replaced the shockers and pins. I
could not imagine doing it in situ! I found it difficult enough to get
the bits back in place having assembled them on the bench. Must have
been much more flexible with eyes that did not need glasses 18 years ago.
By the way if you do take the shockers and the steel plates LG05/Lg08
out they are handed when you refit them. If you do it the way I did
first time the gear will not come up! It does show it in the diagram
but we could find no specific mention in the manual.
The bushes just pressed out quite easily with a nut, bolt and small
washer. No heat required.
Regards
Pete
PS Carried on and rebuilt the outriggers, finished yesterday.

Hi Glen,
Without checking through my log books, I think I have changed all he bushes three
times now and they will need doing again in the not too distant future (I do
have over 2,300 hours on the aircraft now).
On each occasion I have done the job all in situ and I have managed to do it with
a little tool press I made up comprising a bolt, nut, washers and a length
of tube the same size as the bush. I don't use heat, just press the old bush out.
Another mono in the same hangar as done the job once following my advice.
It's a really horrible job working upside down at virtually full arms length but
ultimately it is manageable.
