If any Europa flyers are not committed to other events this weekend they may be interested in visiting Lydeway Field for Nigel Charles' annual BBQ. Due to some cancellations there are slots available. Lydeway is a lovely long, level and smooth strip SE Devizes. Contact Nigel at nigelcharles123@gmail.com for briefing . Do not archive. William, Congratulations on behalf of the Club. It would be good to have a brief account of your build process (+ trials & tribulations!) and the first flight for the Europa Flyer. Hi Bob, I intend to attend the LAA rally on Saturday. Weather permitting it will be in my a/c so you can have a look-see at my park brake system. I am deliberately not sending the mod details since very little of it really refers to what you intend to do with your machine. I only make the comparison, that you seem to be using all the same components as me and I have not found any problems. Your actual physical installation will inevitably be quite different. You should be able to find me on the Europa Club stand around midday on Saturday as I am supposed to be manning it around that time. The system works just fine but I do have it operating as finger brakes. What you are proposing is the same hydraulically as we have, only leaving the Kart cylinders on the floor instead of the pedestal. If you would like to contact me personally for more information then please call me on 07720985011 or direct to my personal email address pjeffers@talktalk.net Regards Pete Jeffers -----Original Message----- From: owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-europa-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of BobD Sent: 17 August 2017 15:11 Subject: Europa-List: Toe Brakes with Parking Brake Has anyone experience of installing a Parking Brake with the standard Tri-Gear Toe Brakes ? I have read the various 33T documents from the Builders Manual, but only the Finger Brake version mentions the Parking Brake, and I have no wish to convert to the Finger Brakes. I am wondering if something like the MATCO PVPV-D can be used in line between the standard Toe Brake Cylinders and the Wheel Brakes , or if further modifications of the hydraulics system are required ? I have added a diagram from the MATCO website which shows the PVPV_D installed with their vertical brake cylinders, but the comment about their vented reservoir cap being the highest point in the system concerns me, considering that the standard cylinders used on the Europa are horizontal. -------- Bob Dawson XS TG || 912 ULS || G-NHRJ Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=471928#471928 Attachments: http://forums.matronics.com//files/matco_109.pdf --- This email has been checked for viruses by AVG. http://www.avg.com

Subject: Conversion guidance help needed from newbie :-)
    From: "rainbow462" <jeremy.hoyland@pepsico.com>
Hi everyone Just joined the forum as I'm seeking a little conversion wisdom from the group, as I've been offered a half share in a Europa XS monowheel. I currently have a PPL (M) with lots of flexwing experience but minimal 3 axis, so just a couple of questions. I've written to the LAA, the Europa club, Europa Ltd, spoken to a few schools and devoured the web but am still not crystal on the best way forward, so thoughts welcome...... 1..Am I right in thinking that I can fly a Europa on a NPPL (SSAE) if I plan to keep to the UK? I think I need to do min 3 hours+an exam, but would obviously do whatever is required to reach the standard/be comfortable. 2..Assuming the above any guidance welcome on the best way of going about this? Could it be better to do the NPPL and taildragger conversion at the same time on the Europa, or to to do the NPPL first (probably on some sort of non Europa tri gear) and then separately converting to the Europa afterwards. 3..If I separate the NPPL and the Conversion, any recommendations for things I should bear in mind for the NPPL bit e.g type of school aircraft to aim for? Does it matter most school aircraft seem to be tri gearand potentially very different from the Europa? Sorry for all the questions and many thanks in advance for any answers Jeremy based Hampshire (near Popham) Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=472047#472047

Hi Jeremy, I'm sure lots of people will pitch in, but I just wanted to say that I've been flying my Europa Classic Monowheel on an NPPL for the last 10 years or so. Monowheel is a bit like a taildragger and a bit not like a tail dragger. There is a very good write up by Mike Gregory referencing John Brownlow on ground handling a monowheel. I tend to paraphrase it by saying keep the tailwheel on the ground for as long as possible on take off and get it on the ground as soon as possible on landing - this is not classic taildragger, where you often hold the tailwheel off the ground. There should be plenty of people available to help convert via the LAA or Europa club. The bit I struggled with was the height reference - the monowheel is very low to the ground, much lower than most things you might train on. My only taildragger experience before the monowheel was on a 3 axis microlight and I did my NPPL conversion on a Bolkow Junior. I did get expert Europa club conversion on to the monowheel and can't overstate the value of that to me. I admit that I largely stick to grass and avoid significant cross winds - this might be a problem if I used the aircraft for touring, but I don't, I just fly for the fun of it. I don't think that the monowheel is difficult to handle, it just requires a specific technique and perhaps a more sensitive hand? (you can't just plonk it on and apply the brakes!) Best of luck. It might not be easy, but it's certainly possible Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=472048#472048
