A hearty congrats Kingsley, it's no small achievement to build and fly your own
plane, and (for me anyway) it's been one of life's milestones.
Do share more about your mainwheel fairings, i'm interested.

Subject: | Re: Alignment of pitot tube |
Tony, I suspect you just might be overthinking it. I would expect the
dynamic pressure on the pitot tube to relate to the cos of the angle to
the air flow and cosines of small angles are very close to one - hence
for instance minor angular deviations from a direct line route make very
little difference to total distance travelled. In fact cos 85 degrees is
0.9962, so 5 degrees off straight gives less than 0.4% difference,
barely perceptible in our speed range. would place it where the manual
suggests (or possibly where the premoulded position is on the XS wing if
you have access to one) and then angle the tube parallel to the
underwing surface there as airflow is bound to be close to parallelto
the surface locally. I suspect that its position on the wing is more
important than the precise pitch angle but you could assume the Europa
recommended position is best as long as your pitot is not significantly
shorter or longer than the standard one.

Subject: | Tri-gear speed kit |
I'm considering fitting the speed kit and have a few questions.
How much does the whole kit weigh? How much speed is REALLY added, because I'm
sceptical about the 10 knot increase which is claimed by some? Which components
of the kit give the most speed benefit? Does anyone have such a kit for sale
second-hand in good condition?
Thanks.

Thank you one and all for your kind words and encouragement both on and
off list. I=99m really quite surprised at the level of support
given so many have already gone before. . . . guess it proves we
don=99t have to all purchase a Toyota to enjoy that =9COh!
what a feeling=9D experience. Also proves of course what a great
band of people we have on our Europa List.
Graeme Engine is the plain original 912 80 HP
Tim In case you haven=99t noticed, it is the same distance
across the ditch in both directions . . . . . I=99m waiting on you
mate to show me how it=99s done!!
Jonathan Your observations and assumptions were 100% correct my
friend.
David GXSDJ I will endeavour to oblige as requested for the Europa
Flyer but it may take a little time sorry.
Pete One of my Grandsons has insisted I install his Go Pro so
hopefully there may be some more footage one day.
Clive My mainwheel fairing is not a work of art like some but
I=99ll send you something off list.
Cheers
Kingsley
PS Haven=99t had a chance to commit aviation again yet . . . .
Life is already getting in the way of flying just as it did with the
building! and people asked me what I was going to do in retirement???

Subject: | Rebuilding my panel |
Hi
I am planning to rebuild my panel this coming winter after I have been flying 700
hrs during ten years with the current configuration.
Planning to take away all vacuum and build a new panel around a Garmin G3X Touch
with remote autopilot, transponder, com-radio and GPS.
Have a little challenge in planning this operation
Cannot find an on-line tempplate for the 7 G3X, and what about the wire-harness
?
Do I build that myself, or .. ?
Would very much like to get in contact with other Europa builders who have been
working with this system from Garmin.
Regards
Gert

Tony,
I'd expect it should have to be parallel to the airflow in cruise attitude, not
that a few degrees would make much difference...

Gert, I am at the very end of installing just such a system - a G3X
touchMFD (GDU450), a GNC255, a remote GTX 45R transponder, a GPS 25
remote certified GPS, an ADRH, two Garmin autopilot servos and a G5 as a
back up for the system. The LAA previously insisted on steam age ASI &
altimeter as back up but now accept the G5 as back up for those as well
of course as back up horizon, VSIand GPS course. I will happily talk to
you off line about it. I have been advised by Manuel Querioz who has
been writing a series in the LAA magazine about constructing the ideal
panel culminating in just such a selection. It all looks very pretty but
I still have the commissioning and testing to do.

Hi David
That is exactly the package I plan for!
Q: where did you buy, and do you have a list over the different
components needed for doing the installation?
Did you build the harness yourself?
Regards Gert
NB and as Pete said, pictures please :)))
