I also suppose a high temperature stuff is needed for those parts. Has anyone the right answer? Strangely, the inside of my cowls are still a nice pale green colour with no yellowing like other parts of the airframe. I have always been of the opinion they might have some phenolic base in them and when I have cut them, I reckon it smelt very much like polyester. Thanks again men . . . . onwards and hopefully Upwards! I was looking at a friend's sport cruiser. The "heater" is just engine compartment air straight through a hole in the firewall. Doesnt that compromise the purpose of the firewall as well? Alan Sent from my iPad > On 28 Oct 2017, at 12:43, William Daniell wrote: > > I was looking at a friend's sport cruiser. KingsleyI believe you=99re correct but have no way to confirmF. ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 03:57:55 PM PST US Subject: Europa-List: Re: Europa Cowl Resin From: "Nigel Graham" Remi is correct. All the grey coloured components supplied with the original kit (cowls, doors, "D" panel and the speed kit) were manufactured with woven glass and polyester resin. If you need a heat tolerant polyester resin for cowling mods, use a "tooling" grade product. These are designed to withstand autoclave temperatures and have minimal shrink characteristics. I use "Optimould". Hope this helps Nigel Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=473917#473917 ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 05:22:09 PM PST US Subject: Re: Europa-List: Re: Europa Cowl Resin From: Pete Thnks for that info! That means any door strut mods need to be done in poly and not epoxy then? I've not heard that to date....or maybe i wasnt listening ;) Cheers and thx, Pete > On Oct 28, 2017, at 6:57 PM, Nigel Graham wrote: > > > Remi is correct. Looking for individual/s who know and/or fly the Europa XS Tri Gear in Arizona area. As a new owner of a used Europa, I=99m looking for guidance to help me understand its construction and maintenance. A sort of =9Cmentor=9D if you will. I have never built a plane kit, I=99m a fairly new low time private pilot that may very well be in way over his head. But what I do know is that, I want to make my Europa XS shine and be flying for years to come. I purchased my Europa a little bit over a month ago and immediately started to take it apart to learn about it. Since then I have managed to fixed several wiring issues throughout the aircraft. However, now I =99m getting into areas that I never worked with, example (such as composite repair possibly de-lamination). Needless to say I have questions on how to, what to use, etc.. If anyone here is willing to assist me by giving me advice or point me to resources I can use through my project, please contact me.
