Thanks Anthony,
Be very careful when ordering silicone hoses. As explained in an earlier
thread, Samco sell two products that sound very similar. The standard
Fluorosilicone lined hose is only resistant to fuel. The Profuel
Fluoroelastomer lined hose is fuel proof. The LAA will only approve the
fuel proof hose coupling. Look for the words Profuel.

Regarding the Bug Eye glass for the doors.
LP Aero makes these. You can get them in any tint (but not original classi
c yellow but they have a close copper one).
Clear, light gray, medium gray, copper, and of course the new UV blocking a
re available... The UV blocking is so good, you can hardly feel the sun hi
tting you under the glass. Much cooler and comfortable here in Florida.
Karen can get them dropped shipped direct to you in the UK.
Height is 1.5 inches increase on the average.
I installed one of the first on 419PL. No problem really. In fact the bul
ge makes the strap installing technique require slightly taller blocks and
that means easier clean up around the straps.
Glass is exactly the shape on the edges for install in the door. The bulge
starts approximately 1 inch outside the door glue area. Slight distortion
in the bulge section, but not noticeable in flight.
A vent door is not recommended as it must be placed quite a bit higher, and
puts the hinge line too close to my face. Personal thing. I=92m not pret
ty, but I like to prevent ripping my face open in a sudden stop.
Your head sticks up higher of course, but does not seem to bother forward v
isibility around the canopy bow.
Although these are slightly more expensive, I found this to be a cost effec
tive height increase over the high top mod and the only thing to do with a
completed airplane in need of a taller height when installing a new door or
glass change out.

Kyle,
I just put a heavily revised brake installation guide for the trigear on my
website, I will clean it up after three other projects. Aileron trim firs
t, rudder trim next and then more stuff on the customflightcreations.com we
bsite and to the Europa Club as well. For those in the UK we can organize
some of the brake install ideas from the past into acceptable approved mods
I=92m sure with little work.
This pdf attached should answer many of your questions. Refer to your LAA
limitations on what can be done if in the UK or if in other parts of the wo
rld, where there is more autonomy, you can see how successful brake install
ations were made and be assured of success. Making the installation is one
thing, making is serviceable and structurally sound is imperative.
The Europa cutout mod is fairly easy to fabricate on your own, but be sure
to properly secure the area cut out for returning the structural strength o
f the module. I have repaired a number of minor Europa mishap damaged airc
raft. The center tunnel is a very strong truss work which, properly instal
led, will maintain cockpit integrity in a frontal crash. It is a shame thi
s Europa Matco brake mod is so expensive. Others have simply used the foot
brake brackets turned upside down and fastened them to the tunnel top near
the throttle. It works fine but again, the cockpit module was not designe
d for brake mounting in that area. Look at how the single cylinder brake w
as mounted in the mono. That install is installed in shear. If you mount t
he Kart Kraft brakes in the same manner as some of us have on the top of th
e tunnel, a bending moment pulling on the handles is a peel pull which glas
s does not handle as well. It is imperative the top of the tunnel be reinf
orced properly with aluminum plate and additional glass. It is hard to bel
ieve you can pull over 400 pounds on a little 9 inch handle. That is over
300 foot pounds of bending on that glass area you just put holes and slots
into.
Since 1999 I have assisted folks in installing brake systems and much was l
earned. The pdf attached is a summary of that learning curve.
Best Regards,
Bud Yerly

Subject: Europa-List: Trigear brakes
I'm hope everyone is doing well. I have taken too long of a vacation from
building and going to get back into it. Last I left off I was getting the
finger brakes ready.
Since my kit is a mono wheel conversion I don't have F28 & F29 for the 'sh
elf' that the master cylinders rest on.
Does anyone have these for sale?
I like the idea of working on the brakes from above vs creating an access
panel from below. I'm sure I can order them from Europa but at a premium
(US costs).
Thank you,
Kyle

Thank you so much Rick for sending through this set of pictures and the
other three sets. The job looks a lot less daunting than I thought.
I was not planning on doing Mod 67 but once I'm ready to join the two
fuselage parts I will review that decision.
The advice on the screen is very helpful, I'm in NZ so getting one from
Europa is an expensive option. Fortunately I can have one made locally so
I will have them make it to a template. Unfortunately they are not quite
local enough that I can just take them the plane!
I see from your pictures you had a piece of plywood at the tail end to
support the fuselage. How else did you support it on the bench? I was
planning to build an elaborate structure similar to the fuselage cradle but
I see from your pictures that this is not necessary.
Regards
Graeme

Subject: | Possible pitot static pressure problem |
Hi All
Maybe someone can help with these two problems - are they connected?:
1. My VSI has started reading 100ft descent/min - even when I am parked
on the ground. When it reads zero in flight I am actually climbing.
2. My Transponder (old Narco unit) has started indicating about 2000ft
higher than I actually am.
I think both occured at about the same time.
I am about to fit a new Trig transponder and so will check the visible
pipes for condition etc. Does this combination ring any bells?

If you disconnect the Static line from both and leave to open air, on the ground
of course, then at least eliminates a common blockage.
Water in the lines?
Or could simple be a need to adjust the zero on the VSI and a faulty encoder on
the transponder.

Hi All
I am considering fitting a LED rectangular array in the "Chin" of the
lower cowling below the air intake.
The LAA has Prototype Mods 13072 (G-TAGR) and 14394 (G-URMS). Does
anyone know how these Mods perform? Are there any other Mods I have missed?
One issue seems to be the heat generated and the need for a heat sink.

Subject: | Transponder Ground Plane |
Merry Christmas everyone.
I have a Garmin 327 transponder and a short antenna with a small ball on
the end. When I installed it, Bob Nuckolls advised that the ground plane
should to be an aluminum disc the radius of which is the same as the
length of the antenna. So my disc is probably 5-6 in diameter. It seems
to work OK, around this area at least which is about 10 nm from ATC.
Looking at upgrading to the Dynon Transponder in order to meet the 2020
NextGen requirement here in the States. Reading the install instructions
it says:
<<The ground plane should be as large as you can sensibly make it.
Because it is a function of the wavelength of the transmission, the
smallest practical ground plane for a transponder is a square around 120
mm per side; as the size increases the performance improves until the
ground plane is around 700 mm on each side. Anything much larger than
that size is unlikely to show significant further improvement.>>
So my disc is slightly larger than the 120 mm square referenced but
according to Dynon the bigger you make it the better the performance.
As I have plenty of room, is there any merit in increasing the size of
the ground plane? What have others done - particularly for a Dynon set up?

Martin Tuck

I did not modify the antenna and performance has not been an issue. I
operate out of class B airspace.
