Gert, I have installed a GMU 22 with my G5 system at top of fuselage
behind the D panel. I previously had a Blue Mountain magnetometer
(looking like the GMU11) at bottom of fuselage a foot back from D panel.
Both seem to work/have worked OK., and the G5 system appears to be very
critical of its inputs.

Thanks=99 David - at the top behind the =9CD=9D is
exactly the position that I consider.
What do you mean when you write =9C - and the G5 system appears to
be very critical of its inputs=9D

Gert, I mean that it seems to have a self testing system. It seems to
analyse the inputs from each of the attached units and puts up messages
if it is not happy. It also does its own independent calibration of the
magnetometer. I have always had to have someone outside the plane lining
it up on different headings with a specially accurate compass to
calibrate the plane's compass or magnetometer, but the G5/ GMU
calibration just requires you to go to a compass square, then point the
plane roughly north. Then the G5 takes over, telling you turn slowly
right; hold it there; turn slowly right; hold it there and so on whilst
you go slowly through 360 degrees. Then it says All done. That is
probably not quite the same as saying that it can determine the magnetic
cleanliness of your positioning of the magnetometer but it certainly
seems to be critical of the nature of its inputs.
Regards, David

Subject: | Re: Alternate static port & Switch |
I could hardly tell any difference with cockpit static, although there was a couple
of knots difference seen instantly as the cabin ventilators were plugged. However,
if the rear of a door becomes unlatched (or I guess some other similar
major fuselage leak), the pressure instruments become highly variable, misleading
and unusable. For that reason alone I reinstated the wing mounted static.

In the early days I fitted a switched static line with the alternate being behind
the panel and I found the readings to be substantially different to the standard
static port and I eventually removed it all.
Unfortunately, being 20 odd years ago it is to long ago for me to remember exactly
what the differences were in actual numbers.

I discussed this recently with the LAA and they didn't see and issue with leaving
them unconnected in non-pressurised aircraft.

Subject: | Europa25Gap International Fly-In, Gap-Tallard, France, June |
Hello all,
The Europa25Gap Fly-In is organized with the contribution of AAVD -one of the local
Aero-Clubs- and The Europa Club to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the
Europa kitplane. That is in a little bit more than three months
from now. Please note the dates on your diary.
The Fly-In is open to Europa owners and builders but anyone interested in the type
will be welcome, even if he flies another type.
Attached is the proposed program and the registration form to be filled and sent
back to me.
We all know that weather or other reasons can force you to change your plans, so
filling the registration form should not be considered as a firm commitment
to come, but that hugely helps the organization. So if your are planning to come,
please send your registration form now. The hotels are very busy in summer
so early booking is recommended.
More information (arrival procedures, parking, etc....) will be provided later
on.
For those who do not know the Gap-Tallard airfield, you can view it in real time here: http://www.alpes-envol.fr/pages/webcam/webcam-aerodrome-tallard.html
Also have a look at the presentation video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7ZkW70fey4&feature=youtu.be
I hope to see you there in June.

I should have mentioned that hotel Le Cap should be the preferred choice for two
reasons: it is located right on the airfield and the dinner on Saturday evening
is at the hotel's restaurant.
Le Mas d'Estello is to be considered as a back-up.

Hi Remi,
You can count me in, not so far from Portugal! Will fill in the form ASAP. Can
we camp on the airfield?
