Hello all,
I'm planning to spend all week at Sun 'n Fun, flying in with British Airways.
Anyone else going to be there?

Subject: | Classic Engine Mount M10 Bolts |
Hi All,
On the Classic, the M10 bolts that hold the engine to the engine mounting frame.
The M10x55 and M10x130 in the Europa Classic Build Manual... Is there anything
special about them, are they standard 'off-the-shelf' DIN912's? 8.8 or 10.9?
It's difficult for me to see the designation markings on mine, and I'd like to
have required parts before starting my job.
Best
Jon

Jon,
I won=92t say for sure on the Classic as the bolts I have for the XS ring m
ount (similar) appear to be US SAE grade 8 bolts or 10.9 Metric Hardness (+
830MPa or 120K PSI) which is hardened enough for the task without being to
o brittle. I would avoid anything lower grade. These bolts are loaded pr
imarily in shear so I worry more about the ring mount wear on the bolt if i
t is loose. This frame on the Classic and the later XS ring mount must be
shimmed tight. See Rotax for a shim kit if you must shim your mount for an
y reason.
Lockwood Aviation Rotax supplied Allens for the 914 ring mount appear to be
this grade also but there are no markings. Torque is 30NM-35NM depending
on the year manual you read and are black anodized and have the right hardn
ess...

Bud Yerly

Hi Bud,
Thanks for the reply. I have a suspect oil leak from the starter, and the engine
frame is in the way of the removal.
It's a simple, undo, swing the engine forward a little bit, swap the starter and
re-fit. No re-shimming should be needed, as I'm not changing anything in the
setup.
It shouldn't take too long, to do. I just want the right bolts. I'll order some
10.9's
Best

I=92ve checked the forecast for the week of 10-15 April (Tuesday through Su
nday) at the show will be sunny with a high in the mid 80=92s. Bring your
sun screen and warm your bones after this nasty winter, and so called sprin
g, and enjoy a spring break. You have no excuses not to enjoy a respite fr
om the winter, bond with your fellow aviation enthusiasts, and enjoy some f
un in the sun. We have new builders and restarting builders coming on down
, and there will be much to share.
As the front system presses south with a few showery clouds on Wednesday, s
o our northern brothers can follow it down without difficulty either a bit
early ahead of it, or plan a mid week arrival on the tail of it. Bring sho
rt sleeve shirts, your shorts and some sunscreen.
With one week to go, I am all set and have all the gear ready to go for an
easy Monday setup. I=92m looking for the best day to have a Europa get tog
ether. I believe that Friday will be the best day for an engineering meeti
ng. Wipe off the winter woes and get the engine and airframe warmed up and
come enjoy a week with us for Sun =91n Fun.
Contact me if you are planning to attend or have special needs I can help w
ith.

It shouldn=92t, but be prepared. I=92ve found a Classic that when the engi
ne frame was unbolted, it sprung out a =BC of an inch. Plus, oil leaks can
be a bugger.

I am planning to bring HJ460 to the US for good around august or September.
Can anyone give me any pointers?
HJ460 is a Colombian class II ultralight which is like a EU class II
ultralight.
Many thanks
