Hi! Roland, Just picked up your leaking tank Messages from my Junk List and tried to transfer them to my Inbox to send you my commiserations, but they have vanished into cyber space! Sad to hear your message about your Europa tank. If your trailer was outside in the current heat and not white reflective the temps inside would be baking ? Also was the vent clear to allow expansion inside the closed off fuel system ? sometimes with my aluminium long range system I have been known to leave its own vent closed and it contains a very high pressure due to weather expansion, so it is a factor , but alas too late for your incident any way. Whilst it is a major job to replace the existing tank it has been done in the past so I wouldn't jump into the aluminium route before major considerations of availability etc. One thing is certain and that is provided it is all done in a very controlled way the resin issue will cure quickly but you must do it to the book since the cross member is a major structural item . Sad to hear your message though ......."best made plans of mice and men" comes to mind. Regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG PS look on the bright side .........my "tank" (bladder) has cancer back after 5 years and I go for what I hope is a scrape out on 23rd August ! Best wishes.

Good day Bob, my tank is not leaking.....yet. Just a very pronounced bulge o n the front wall interfering with the Aileron Cross Rod. While the vent is c lear, Living in Las Vegas in the summer is like flying in a convection oven. Has been averaging about 110=99 (42=99) temperature wise these p ast few weeks and will stay like that for a few more. I am going to try heat ing up the empty tank and then some reverse pressure in the form of an expan ding (over a few days) brace. As for your tank, best wishes in that the =9Cscraping=9D is succ essful. Roland, I am no longer a Europa dealer, so I'm saying this as an owner. The new E uropa tank is quite improved. On my website, you can see how I've done thi s as well as how to properly support the tank. It is also on the Europa cl ub website. I am a 9 year survivor of a tank replacement. My tank is kept nearly full always and in 95F weather. The PTFE tank doesn't sweat, and hasn't bulged at all. All the fittings fit without modification. Since I've heard of a couple of Europas with cracked tanks I'm now thinking of installing the aluminium tank of Bill and Sue Sisley from New Zealand. This seems the way to go, since the plastic tank is obviously not up for th e job in the longer run. Hello, I have an intermittent coolant leak on my classic which has a XS firewall forward package. Is it possible to remove the water pump from the engine while it is in situ on the aircraft? In spite of doing pressure tests, running the aircraft with the cowlings off I have been on the unable to trace the origin of the leak, it does not leak cold with a pressure of 1,4 bars. On some flights there is no discernible leak, on others I have lost up to 150 ml during a two hour flight. There is a bit of a white deposit on the exhaust heat shield underneath the water pump. I have also found liquid on the aluminium plate above the radiators but the air passage through the radiators has always been dry. I would rather be sure of where the leak is coming from prior to taking anything apart. Does anyone have some experience or knowledge they could share with me? Worth checking/replacing the Radiator cap (not on the rad I know)? Make sure the replacement has been properly flourinated. I had my tank flour inated in atlanta (same guys who do the auto gas tanks for the big guys as w ell as shampoo bottles etc.), and even though mine was done by the europa su pplier, it came back from my guys with a total frosted finish....so somethin g incremental was appearantly done. I made sure to do all my tank trimming p rior to getting it done, so theoretically it should be encapsulated to preve nt swelling. Still hoping, that it would only be fuel expansion due to the extreme temperatures and although I already knew better in the back of my mind I r efueled again with the same amount of fuel and the dropping started again - of course. Since I've heard of a couple of Europas with cracked tanks I'm now thinking of installing the aluminium tank of Bill and Sue Sisley from New Zealand. This seems the way to go, since the plastic tank is obviously not up for th e job in the longer run. Another advantage might be its resistance against Ethanol which will become more of an issue in the future. Is there anybody else of you out there using an aluminium tank instead of p lastic? Any experiences and thoughts much appreciated. =?Windows-1252?B?ZnTCoMK7IFhT? John, It is a laundry list of checks I=92m afraid: 1. If you are seeing coolant on the duct it may be from * The lowest bolt, the stainless one in the Rotax Maintenance Manual , on the water pump has to be properly inserted and sealed. If not there w ill be a tell tale drip. * Coolant hoses can leak as corrosion around the soft aluminum nippl e will push the hose, and then under pressure may flake off and leave a sli ght seep. * The gasket on the water pump itself may be leaking. * Of course it can be the swivel on the 1 inch housing on the pump o r the 1 inch hose. 2. The Water Pump is very difficult to service with the engine on. That is why I make my engines so easy to remove. 3. You may also find you are having localized boiling if your CHT is run ning above 245F. The localize boiling will cause the cap (check your cap p ressure release also) to vent into the tank, then it goes overboard. All I can say is continue to look. Is it possible to remove the water pump from the engine while it is in situ on the aircraft? In spite of doing pressure tests, running the aircraft with the cowlings o ff I have been on the unable to trace the origin of the leak, it does not l eak cold with a pressure of 1,4 bars. On some flights there is no discernible leak, on others I have lost up to 1 50 ml during a two hour flight. There is a bit of a white deposit on the exhaust heat shield underneath the water pump. I have also found liquid on the aluminium plate above the radi ators but the air passage through the radiators has always been dry. I would rather be sure of where the leak is coming from prior to taking any thing apart. Does anyone have some experience or knowledge they could share with me? Guys, I=92ve done a short youtube video on mods I make to the mono trailer to pre vent aircraft damage and make loading easier. I show the following in the video: 1. For loading ease: * Ramp to raise the trailer drop ramp to ease the pull on and preven t the inboard wing brackets from hitting the trailer. * Tire slot tightening. * Winch. * Main and tailwheel tie down hints. 2. Wing rack changes and distances are discussed. 3. Trailer jack installs. I have had two leaks on mine; the first was from new and on the port side 1" pipe joint above the radiator, I concluded when shutting down the water, no longer circulating, heated here from the exhaust and engine and wept out of the vertical joint. I changed to silicone pipe, wrapped it in insulation webbing and used a better quality clamp. The second leak was a tiny hole in the radiator. -------- Graeme Bird G-UMPY - Mono Classic/XS FFW 912S, Woodcomp SR3000/3W CS, trutrak Gemini 2 axis AP, PAW, PFLARM core, ads-b out, 8.33khz, mode S, FP-5, Aera500, SD on Nexus, Smart A3 350 hours & 6 years on the Mono, 930 total g(at)gdbmk.co.uk Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=482089#482089

    From: "Roland" <schmidtroland@web.de>
Hello Bob, I'm sorry to hear, that you are facing health problems again. Indeed a cracked tank is a problem others would happily like to exchange for their problems. This in mind I will think of you on the 23 August and cross my fingers that all goes well! Although my trailer is white with OAT exceeding 38C the temperatures inside will be even 5-10C higher I guess. I always refuel to the top when leaving the plane for a longer time to prevent condensation and to minimize the risk of cracking. Anyway I'm almost committed to the metal tank. The only disadvantage I could think of is that it's (maybe?) more prone to condensation. I also wouldn't be keen to be the guinea pig, but I'm less concerned, since at least some owners have done it successfully already. But even if I get a new fuel tank from Europa I take it from Bud's comments, that they are at least much better than the early ones in the meantime. I'll let you all know about my decisions in due course. Regards Roland XS TG 914 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=482094#482094
