Dear Listers, There are just a few days left for this year's List Fund Raiser. If you've been putting off making a Contribution until the last minute, well, this is it! The last minute, that is... :-) There are some GREAT new gift selections to choose from this year. I personally want at least three of them! There's probably something you can't live without too! And, best of all it supports your Lists! Please remember that there isn't any sort of commercial advertising on the Lists and the *only* means of keeping these Lists running is through your Contributions during this Fund Raiser. Please make a Contribution today! http://www.matronics.com/contribution Or, drop a personal check in the mail to: Matt Dralle / Matronics 581 Jeannie Way Livermore CA 94550 Thank you! This looks like a typical SAE4130 weld heat affected zone crack. We see it in motorsport constructions regularly. It looks like the parts were not suitably tempered after welding. Although prevalent in the US, this grade is nearly never used in European aircraft construction because of this problem. Luckily I have my ship in the garage at the moment and I will be checking it carefully. That could have caused an exciting landing!! Initially they were prepared to lend a prop to try, then later wanted full price up front (refundable if returned unmarked as 'unsuitable'); at which point I lost interest. Your local DUC dealer may be able to offer something better, if you wanted to try first. Either way, a slippery relatively overpowered aircraft (Europa + 912ULS) can get away easily with a good fixed pitch, unless ultimate short field performance is sought. Duncan McF. ----Original Message---- From: chmgarb@gmail.com Subj: Europa-List: Propeller DUC or Woodcomp I have the opportunity to buy either a used DUC or Woodcomp fixed pitch prop for my europa project. They are both very low use time and well priced. I kind of like the wide chord look of the woodcomp but is the DUC Prop really worth looking into?. They look kind of strange with the narrow chord. Is the pseudo good for takeoff and cruise claim they make real? Too bad there is no one with first hand experience to compare. Anyhow, I waited too long and the DUC is gone. I got the Woodcomp from my friend instead. Will be a good prop to get started and then salivate about going faster once I start flying my europa around :) I like the wide blade looks of it and should be fine.
