Buess Aviatik" Subject: AW: Europa-List: Comfortable Seats Hi Mike, My Europa is equipped with seats from Oregon Aero. This company has produced seats for several Europas. Quality, looks and ease of installation are good. I can=99t say much about the long term seating comfort, as my Europa is not yet flying. If needed I can send you some pictures. To that end, and for the sake of my end, I was wondering if anyone has had success ordering seats from a custom seat manufacturer like Oregon Aero, et al.? Looks, cost, material chosen, ease of installation, cleaningthese are the points I would appreciate feedback on. Thanks to all in advance. They are comfortable on long trips and have held up well for nearly 1000 hours. That they are designed with safety in mind (consideration of impact loads and fire protection) also was a factor in our decision. On the down side, they are expensive and heavy. We had them incorporate seat heat elements which we use occasionally here in Michigan. That has worked well too. Someone once said locks only keep honest people out. The biggest deterrent are our Kennon Sun Shields. They fit inside the windows and prevent people looking to see what avionics are fitted. They make a huge difference in interior temperature. In Florida you'll find that a great feature. In flight we use Pilot Armour Copper overhead sun screens. We have four of them that we position as needed. We bonded an aluminum angle to the spar and lower skin outboard of where the outrigger is located. There is a nutplate in the angle. We carry eyebolts which screw into the nutplates. Our plane spends a lot of the summer tied down outside and never a problem. If like me you fly with a variety of friends or other people's children and are a bit obsessive about weight, then an alternative is to paint the seat backs and use cushions together with a layer or two of impact absorbing foam under your seat cushion. You then have a lightweight adaptable solution, which with the right selection of cushions can still be attractive and comfortable.
