Subject: | tailplane soft foam picture LAA mag UK |
Not sure what to make of the pic page 49 of the LAA mag Jan 2019, showing a tailplane
with the skin removed in 6 big rectangles completely trashing it and saying
that something has made the foam go soft and spongy.
Lots of that foam around uncared for and its still as it ever was. It mentions
contamination but how on the leading edge? I think I would have explored some
other ways like small holes and expanding foam.
I guess the only way in is via the tube and something ominous has been used to
clean/lubricate it and its run down the inside to the leading edge. Maybe it was
condensation/water logging then ice?

Holy-moly! what could have happened there? Protected from sunlight, the
blue foam does not degrade without some reacting chemical involved (like
acetone etc).
Curiosity from this side of the pond: Are there other LAA europa articles I
am missing out on? Is there an LAA back-issue list of Europa articles?
Thx,
Pete

Subject: | Pierburg fuel pump 7.2097155 |
Hi All
A flashing fuel pressure light, probably caused by a failing pressure
sensor, got me thinking about a spare fuel pump for the 912ul in my Classic.
I believe the new Rotax pump with the drain will not fit in the Classic
as it touches the radiator. I looked on the Ruddies-Berlin website but
they do not seem to offer the 7.2097155 anymore.
Any ideas where I might find one UK or Europe or is there an alternative
pump that will fit the Classic layout?
Thanks
Pete

Bob glad you fixed it.
I found that the motor and gearbox were easy to get hold of. I contacted the motors
manufactures UK distributor. The guy I talked to knew all about the which
motor and gearbox to use and that it was used on propellers. The parts were expensive.
I don't think you necessarily need to buy the gearbox. The lead time
was about six weeks.
With regard to following the manufactures maintenance requirements. There isn't
to much information to help you.
I cycle the propeller before flight with the engine running.

Subject: | Ampreg21 - 30 anyone have any spare uk? |
Just got a quote from Mouldlife for redux and ampreg30 (replaces 21?) I don't really
need 18ltrs of Ampreg at 600; do Europa do smaller bottles or has anyone
in the UK got any with 2-3 years life in? I just need some to patch the top of
the rudder, do the tailplane retention mod; put the wing farings on, attach
the baggage bay floor and fuel filler, bits and bobs really. I have some old stuff.

Hi Graeme
I purchased some Ampreg 21 from Marineware recently. I think it was a 3.6 Kg pack:
https://www.marineware.com/index.php/products/composites/ampreg-21-detail
I'm not sure you could use Ampreg 30 as a replacement until approved by Europa
/ LAA.
There was a similar situation when it changed from Ampreg 20 to 21. I had to wait
for Europa to supply the LAA with proof that it met the required specifications.
When the LAA were satisfied, Europa issued a letter to all builders approving
Ampreg 21 for use.
Araldite 420 is available from Silmid and also LAS. I have brought recently from
Silmid. It comes in a 200ml cartridge or 1.4 Kg pack.
