Bob, It's a 'Drop of the Hat' fly out. There were lots in the 2000s but
they have largely disappeared. The basic idea is that someone picks a
day with good weather prospects and picks a destination with a
restaurant and a free landing token in one of the aviation mags and then
posts his proposal. Historically anywhere between 3 and 10 planes would
turn up. It was a way of meeting up with your mates, having a purpose in
your flying and being encouraged to visit new places. I feel the format
is well due for a revival. Whether tomorrow's weather is up to
justifying the choice of the day for a relaunch remains to be seen. What
had looked like being wall to wall sunshine now seems to offer fairly
frequent snow showers over the South West and it is likely that I shall
later cancel my proposal for tomorrow.
Regards, David

Sadly the combined weight of BBC, XC, Theyr and Windy all suggest a
significant amount of snow over the SW tomorrow and Windy also suggests
patches of low cloud base, with the scenery of course being quite high
in places. In these circumstances I feel I have to withdraw my
suggestion for the DOTH.

Subject: | Re: GS tailwheel rudder drive mod question. |
Hi Pete
If you put a straight edge on the tip and measure along the inside of the leading
edge (next to the hinges), my rudder measures 48 inches from the straight edge
to the centre of the pushrod bracket.
Similarly, if you put the bottom of the rudder on the floor and measure up the
inside of the leading edge from the floor to the centre of the bracket it is 6
inches.
However, the bracket position is determined by the lower hinge position on the
rudder. If you have that in the right place as shown in Chapter 2 of the Build
Manual, you should be ok.
Hope this helps.

David, that's a great idea and well worth resurrecting. It's a shame tomorrow's
event has been cancelled due to weather, but I hope to partake in the future.
