This will be our first visit after a gap of about 10 years. Sun 'n Fun is April 2nd through the 7th. We had our winter here in Florida. It got down to 40F for TWO DAYS! But it was still sunny. Folks are complaining again that it is in the 70s and the humidity is climbing. So bring your wife, kids, friends and your need for Vitamin C and D and get some real sun and warmth to start this years flying season off right. Anita and I will once again have our booth at site N-55 thanks to Airmaster Propellers and will have props and an aircraft on display. Of course there will be a Europa owner presence as usual, as I still have yet to find a kit that can do what I can do in my Europa. It is still the finest flying light aircraft made. I'll have my Europa 12AY with its new avionics and ADSB upgrade at the field. I've had some medical issues recur and am currently not sure if I will fly 12AY over as an LSA or HotRod or perhaps let someone else fly it over. I'm finally going to get my Whirlwind AP332 back on 12AY (yea, I loaned it out and it came back undamaged). I am relieving myself of some Europa parts and bits also. Mostly mono wheels, brakes, and bits from conversions. I have two kits very far along for sale and one complete mono aircraft on its trailer (Jabiru 3300 powered) currently in the shop which go on sale also. These are kits/planes being sold due to age, health, etc. you know the drill. We're all getting older you know. So please come and share our Florida sunshine, and our love of experimental aircraft and all things aviation. Best Regards, Bud and Anita Yerly Custom Flight Creations, Inc. I believe there are two parts to the process - Registration who looks quite straightforward - Airworthiness which looks a little more complex thanks Will William Daniell LONGPORT +57 310 295 0744 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 08:48:12 AM PST US From: William Daniell Subject: Europa-List: Cold weather I wonder if anyone has come across this. Hj 460 grew up in a warm climate. Passing through Mississippi we encountered sub zero temperatures. Two things happened. One was that one of the doors wouldn't open...it had shrunk in the cold and came into contact with the surround. The other was the engine would only reach 5200. I surmised that this was because I set the propeller fine stop for Colombia on a warm day at 8500'. At zero ft and close to freezing the air was much denser and therefore the fine stop was set too coarse. And so it proved. yesterday with a very warm afternoon in FL she made 5700 as normal. First the prop: Density altitude determines engine power and prop pitch fo r appropriate setting=85 As I said before. Reset your stops on the fine p itch to 5650 RPM and the course setting on a 64 inch prop to 4000 at max co ntinuous power. These settings prevent a fine pitch overspeed on takeoff/g o around and the course setting allows cruise setting up to Vne without the engine RPM climbing during the dive. Doors: Yep, things built at 30C suddenly asked to work at -10C do not respo nd well. (The doors are vinylester carbon and glass and the fuselage epoxy and glass so they move differently over 40-50C. The door seals also get q uite hard at low temps.) Now that you are in Florida, leave the doors close d and things should normalize in a few days. Worse case scenario if still out of alignment, heat your shoot bolt guide in the door sills and remove t hem and reset to allow proper movement. Registration: It is relatively easy to convert to a US registry. I would recommend you s pend a little time on: https://www.faa.gov/licenses_certificates/aircraft_c ertification/aircraft_registry/import_aircraft/ Next: contact the Miami FSDO (Flight Standards Duty Office) (also on line) and get their input. Forms and folks are available at the Miami office to help you. The registration form is an 8050-1. Easy to fill out. Fees ar e small. They are normally pretty responsive. The FAA Rep may come out and redo your airworthiness inspection for free. Talk to them. If you have to use a Designated Airworthiness Rep, expect to pay $500 up to $1000. Stay away from the Tampa FSDO, as they are slow and unresponsive to experim ental anything. I use Federal Aviation Title in Oklahoma City (right down the street from t he FAA headquarters) for all my registration work. Superior service. The ir website is: http://www.federalaviationtitle.com/ They walk the forms t hrough and you have your FAA registration complete in a few days, rather th an the typical months. They are also a great source of information if our Federal employees at the Miami FSDO are less than responsive. Their fees a re minor also as they guarantee completion. Typically around $60. Bottom Line, transferring from foreign registry to US is not a big deal. C ontact Aviation Title and get the ball rolling. Glad to have you in the States.
