I thought mice may have eaten some of the adhesive tape used to seal cardboard cases stored there and I forgot about it. After pulling the long range tank out of my aircraft yesterday, I discovered that it was damaged on two angles (photos attached). There is no possibility for the tank to be damaged when installed in the aircraft as all the cockpit and bagage area are covered with carpet. So no risk of rubbing on anything hard enough to cut into the tank material. Then I realized were that white sawdust was coming from. Mice had eaten my tank while it was stored in the hangar, very close to were the dust was discovered last year. Fortunately the tank material is thick enough and up to now there is no leak. However that means that if mice manage to enter our aircraft, they may eat the main fuel tank as well as other stuff such as fuel hoses, wiring... This is really a cause for concern. Any suggestion to prevent mice to climb aboard? Better than electronic solution. Call me old and feeble, but adding the T handle to the choke was very helpf ul. A $20 expenditure and an hour to tap the T handle worked out well and is something to consider on those cold, dreary, non Florida winters where t he choke is hard to pull with gloves. Attached are details. Now to make a placard saying Choke-Pull ON, Push-OFF or similar. Not that it isn=92t obvious.
