For me was a sunny day but not very warm...
A friend of me has the same problem...
In my mind its the park brake box (pvpv-d for matco system)
Im curious to know how it works...
But in general the europa brake system conception seems to be poor...
Im surprised to see a twister caliper piston pushing on only half a pad...

Yep,
With the brakes pulled on very hard (about 450PSI), the heat expands the fl
uid (the outer shop is very hot in summer) and the brake pressure south of
the park brake got higher with the heat and soon the spring release on the
valve, can=92t release against the pressure. I use Mil 5606 in 12AY, and t
hat is a sticky fluid which probably didn=92t help either.
By the way, the master and slave cylinders can stick also. If your brake c
aliper slides are a bit on the loose side, then you can cock the brake cali
per and it just won=92t release unless the plane is moved. Also the calipe
r piston is prone to cocking causing a dragging brake.
I=92m thinking of going to a wagon wheel wood to tire park brake setup with
a long handle and cable. It=92s 50 pounds, so I=92m thinking of making it
lighter and smaller. Perhaps a set of custom chocks made from small alumi
num angle may be a smarter idea.

Bud Yerly

Yes....was it very hot?
It happened to me one hot day...I left the aircraft out in the sun with the
parking brake on and and it bound on - apparently the older PA28s do it.
I cant remember the explanation though. If it happens take the brakes off
and put it in the shade. it will loosen after a while

Hello,
I own an xs tri with finger brakes
After having activated the parking brake, my left brake was stuck. I had to
loosen the bleed screw to free the disc.
Any ideas?

Thanks for you response.
I dont understand what you mean by :
Im thinking of going to a wagon wheel wood to tire park brake setup with a long
handle and cable.
You want to avoid to use park brakes?
I wonder which fluid is the best to minimize this problem...
I requested a quote from berringer for a full brake set including wheels and Im
waiting for it.

Way to go Will.
I=92m shocked at the 40 hour fly off after a flight from South America. Wh
at the hell do they want?
Typical Miami FSDO. They need an enema!

I think I may have traced my intermittent starting problem of my old
912UL to the ignition boxes, so I'm weighing up my options.
Two new ignition boxes are around $1,000 each (!) so I'm not sure I want
to sink that kind of money into a 20 year old engine even though it only
has 300 hours on it.
I like the look of the 912ULS, it has a bit more power, a heavy duty
starter and a slow start module that seems to have resolved the ragged
starting issues of the early engines.
If you have a 912ULS I'd be interested to hear what you think of the
engine and how long you have had it. Also, will it fit in the same
engine ring mount as the 912UL - I'm thinking particularly of the size
of the starter.
Many thanks,
Martin Tuck

Thinking of changing the ignition modules? Remember you will need to change the
flywheel too. The ULS seems to run cooler and requires less maintenance than
the 914, but the high altitude performance is great.
