Subject: | SM13070 Aluminium Tubing Fuel Fuller Hose |
Good morning,
I=99ve had fuel leaking from the Classic fuel filler hose and looking t
o complete Mod SM13070 incorporating the Aluminium Tubing rather than the ru
bber hose. I have emailed John Archer (who manufactures the aluminium tube) t
o enquire about purchasing one. John has said that he cannot supply the tube
s on a one-off basis as the company has a set-up charge, so will require a b
atch to be made. The last batch made was for 12 people and cost =C2=A3250 pe
r tube.
Does anyone else require this Mod, and be willing to =98join forces
=99? Please let me know as soon as you can. If not, it=99ll be the E
uropa Mod79 rubber hose for me.
Thanks in advance, happy flying.

Thanks Bud. Nice write-up and good points regarding finishing.
Regarding paint your point is correct. With the Kolb I did what you suggest. I
did all the prepping up to primer at home (gave me all the time in the world to
correct problems, fine sand everything, etc) and then I took it to a friends
shop with a spray booth and applied the final coat (single stage PPG Durathane).
Ended up with a show finish and it still looks like new today after 20 years.
Good points on LSA. Right now no medical issues and since I was flying for an airline
until not too long ago I had a first class. In my last medical renewal
I opted to go down to third to keep it simple since I don't fly commercial anymore
(was starving and had to go back to Engineering :) ) It's good to know what
options are available as you get older.
Anyway, thanks. at my end I started to play with the engine install so pretty exciting
stuff (and a bit more fun that just fiberglass work). Reading your write-ups
regarding water pump modification, ring mount install, etc).
Best,
Chris

Subject: | Outrigger Pivot Beareing Hint |
Hi Group
I just performed Europa Club Aircraft Modification Outrigger Pivot Bearing Modification
Mod # 10661 Version 2.
I purchased some Stainless 304 from McMaster Carr for the insert. First off the
ID was too small for a AN5-21 so I reamed it to 5/16" to .3125". Not a good fit,
the AN5-21 8is undersized so crappy fit. I ordered from Aircraft Spruce close
tolerance bolts AN175-21 and low and behold a real nice fit.
In other words a "much more better fit"!
I had W21 plates that had bushings installed. I drilled them out. 2 of them grab
and latched onto the drill and spun out, probably making the hole a little bit
larger. Then when I went to install the Mcmaster 304 tube, it was a little
too small of an OD. Perhaps Loctite 638 would have done the trick of holding
them in place, but I threw them on the lathe and knurled them. It increased the
OD where it was a nice tight fit, so vise and 638 forced in place made a real
nice job of it. After I pushed the W21 bushings in place I needed to ream again
because the force fit reduced the ID just a tad bit. After reaming AN175-21
bolts fit great!
Anyway anyone who is looking to get a good fit on anything on their aeroplanes,
a good alternative to NAS hardware that has limited sizes is AN175 close tolerance
bolts. Not cheap though.
Sincerely Ron P.
All is well!
