Hi all, I've been lurking for a while, now my first post looking for advice
please.
I've recently bought a nearly finished (yes, it is, really!) XS trigear
with a 912ULS.
I'd like to fit strobes on top and bottom of the fus. Clearly each needs a
hemispherical (or doughnut) light pattern, but I want streamlined
teardrops, not round beacons. I can find 3 possibles.
Only one is LED. That's the Kuntzleman (badged Skyflash in the UK by
Airworld/Sandalwood). https://www.kestrobes.com/all-led-systems/ Looking at
the distribution of LEDs in it, I suspect a lot of the flash would go
vertically and the important doughnut distribution would be less bright. Of
course it's really meant for wingtip mounting. Anyone tried it please?
Second possibility is the Kuntzleman /Skyflash discharge tube type. I
reckon that will give a better distribution as the tube is exposed and non
directional. https://www.kestrobes.com/double-dual-magnum/ Anyone know how
many joules it is per flash please? I've asked but Mr K wouldn't give me a
number.
Third possibility is the similar MicroAvionics discharge tube type (UK
produced). Like the Kuntzleman it gives you a double flash alternating.
Each individual flash is 25 joules i.e 50 joules per double flash cycle per
lamp. It's pretty bright, I suspect the K is lower power.
https://www.microavionics.com/twin-head-high-power-strobe.html
I would have preferred LED but I think it may be less effective.
The K flash tube one has the slight advantage of being a LAA standard mod
needing no further approval.
The MicroAvionics may be the best, I've used one, I'm impressed with its
output, but it means getting approval.
I'm in a quandary! All advice and experience gratefully received, apologies
for the rather long post.
Mike

Martin,
The Wikepedia article is a pretty good explanation,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipole_antenna
Because the ends are folded on the SA-006, the impedance of the antenna needs to
matched to the feedline and the com output. Archer uses a gamma match for this.
Your planned installation sounds fine.
A dipole in the rear fin per the build manual also works very well but access on
a completed airframe is somewhat difficult.

Steve,
We have always used Sta-bil and leave the tank about 1/2 full of 94 octane car
gas each winter. We top the tank with fresh car gas prior to first flight in
the Spring. Typically the plane is not flown from December to March.

Good afternoon Jim & Heather,
As an add on to this topic, do you do anything special to the engine to prevent/retard
corrosion of the cylinder walls and pistons?

If I were to store it for over 90 days Id drain the auto fuel and replace with
2 gallons of 100LL and run it a while to get the carb bowls full. Less than 90
days, no worries.

Subject: | Re: Dipole com antenna |
Thanks Jim,
I think later Europas had premoulded (hollow) fins. Mine has the
original foam core fin. However it sounds like the fuselage is fine also.
How it all works - well, it is all magic. :-)
Regards,
Martin

[quote="ppsel03"]Fly N914XS before? Now you can again as I've written the attached

Using an NACA23012 airfoil with symmetrical stabs (Is the NACA23012 close to our
wing?). No flaps yet... It's perhaps a little over powered, but fly's great
once you get used to the mode 2 RC joysticks. Sorry, I cannot afford apple developer

Please note NO permissions are needed on your Android device just hours of your

I used to play a free simulator and it sucks. After that, I found another paid
simulator and bought it and it was really cool. Then I found out that my younger
brother uses the same paid simulator. When I asked him how he got this simulator,
he just told me about https://yourmoneygeek.com (https://yourmoneygeek.com/free-google-play-credit/).
If to tell briefly, then thanks to the instructions
on the site you can learn how to earn google play credits)
