Subject: Regarding raising the nose wheel - 9/27/2020
My advice for this is from Bud Yerly - Put chocks under the main gear on both front and rear of the wheels. Use rope and four cinder blocks - two on each side. Take the stabs off. Run the ropes through each two block set - (one block fore and aft of the stab control shaft). The first time you will have to adjust the length of the ropes to get the nose wheel where you want it. The blocks should just hit the ground - it adds to the stability. Put the two sets of cinder blocks on - and it will pick up the nose wheel right where you want (after adjustment of the ropes). Works very well and goes well with my other precision Europa tools (the carpeted bench to lay on when working across the baggage area in the rear, and my wooden stand to hold up the tail when I am working in the rear. This week it's time for the nose wheel. Now, my Europa has a self-retracting (spring-loaded) tail tie-down. I'm unsure whether this is standard or something that the builder came up with himself (as I recall, it might be custom for this a/c individual). Any idea if such a tie-down would be safe to use for raising the nose gear? I'll sure check with the builder as well, but any thoughts would be welcome. / Erik On 2020-09-27 00:14, budyerly@msn.com wrote: > > In my effort to prepare info for second hand owners of the Europa, I > found the following info I did some time ago. > > I quickly updated it to add some newer information for folks to > consider as most A&P mechanics have no idea what to do with a Europa when the pilot/owner non builder is confronted with something as simple as a tire change or annual service. > > I hope this attachment is of some service. > > Bud Yerly > Custom Flight Creations, Inc. > > > Read this topic online here: > > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=498561#498561 > > > Attachments: > > http://forums.matronics.com//files/tire_change_of_a_europa_166.pdf > > ________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________ Time: 05:06:26 AM PST US Subject: Europa-List: Re: ADS-B GPS / WAAS antenna install From: "h&jeuropa" <butcher43@att.net> Ron, This is an early GRT EFIS magnetometer that has two 3 wire shielded cables. I put ferrites on both wires. GRT recommends placing the magnetometer in the wing tip. But since I anticipated using both sets of wings, I did not want to have to recalibrate the magnetometer when switching wings, hence the interior placement overhead. Subject: Small issue with Becker 3201 radio
From: "n7188u" <chmgarb@gmail.com>
Dear Europa forum members, This weekend I installed a used (but nice) Becker 3201 radio in my plane. The reception of the radio is crystal clear. The transmission is reported as loud and clear. But .... it does have a small issue when transmitting. When you press the PTT you can hear the carrier right away (we have an ASOS station that records transmission for radio checks) but the modulation (the volume of your voice) increases from nothing to full clear transmission over a period of two or three seconds from PTT press. If you release the PTT and press it again within a few seconds the modulation is OK right away, but if you wait say 30 seconds the modulation ramps up in a matter of two or so seconds. But again, once you wait the required two or three seconds, the transmission is loud and clear. My mic and phone jacks are wired through a PM3000 intercom. I am in the process of eliminating the intercom as a source of the issue by making a jumper connector for the intercom to bypass it. Now, I know that maybe this is the wrong forum for asking a radio issue question but maybe someone out there has similar issues with a Becker installation in the past. I know the Becker 3201 has a jumper for dynamic or "Standard" (I assume standard is electrec) microphones. Don't know yet what it is set up to. I read the Becker has a compressor mic preamp and it almost sounds as if the compressor is ramping up the gain because its not getting enough signal from the microphone so it could be that the mic type jumper is the way to go (I will try that later today). Anyway, just wondering if any of our radio savvy forum members has an idea I would really like to save this otherwise fine radio. Hi Chris I have the same radio, only have ground tested it with a PMA 4000 and seemed to work OK. You can call Becker and Gulf Coast Aviation and ask their opinions? Can also call PM? Ron P. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=498592#498592

Thanks for the reply Ron, I just opened up the radio and checked the mic type jumper. It was set to Dynamic so I changed it to standard (whatever that means, maybe electrec). It works OK now although it seems that the transmitted volume is now not as high as it was in the other setting it doesn't do that delayed modulation thing. I did send a note to Becker USA. Lets see what they say. Best, Chris Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=498595#498595
