Hi all, glad to see the list up and going again, thought it was just me that had
been retired.
Firstly, kit A217 is now a flying Europa. Started in US by Steve Dunsmuir and completed
and flown a few weeks ago by myself, 15 hrs so far and going great.
Since we here in Victoria, Oz are in a lockdown every second week and I have another
XS kit I thought I may as well build one completely.
Here's the tech question,
The kit is 99 era so epoxy and redux out of date. Have been using MGS epoxy and
ordered one kit of redux to do metal to metal and metal to plastic but because
the shelf life is so limited and it's very costly down here was wondering if
anyone has an alternative or would epoxy with flock be ok for plastic to plastic,
ie, cockpit module. We are experimental here in OZ so don't have to strictly
stick to the manual.
As a side note I saw where someone had tested out of date redux and I can verify
twenty year old stuff still goes hard and sticks like the proverbial.
Cheers Peter

Has anyone got a complete set or parts of the Swiss undercarriage mod that they
were going to use but didnt finish their build or decided to fit another type
of undercarriage arrangement or are parting out a kit?
Many thanks

Subject: | XS Main Gear Legs |
Good evening
I have a feeling that the main gear legs on my XS are slightly out of
line. I think its due to a couple of hard landings. When I looked at the
plane (looking at the front from about 8m away) in the hangar today, it
looks as if its leaning slightly to the right.
I have checked the sockets and the re-inforcing ply in the fuselage and
all looks to be ok.
My question is, how easy is it to fit new legs? There is a video on
youtube showing a guy changing one leg. It appears all he does is remove
the socket bolt, pull out the leg, then insert the new one and replace
the bolt, job done. Is there any re-alignment of any kind to do?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Arwel

Arwel,
Before you tear your plane apart are you sure this isnt pilot paranoia.
(I suffer from this from time to time)
Measure at least 3 times in as many different ways as you can conceive.
And measure again. And make sure your reference point is level.
It might also be the build. One end of my tail is 13mm lower than the
other despite my best efforts. (Flies fine though.)

Well...while I have a conventional gear.....if I had to approach this probl
em I would look for differences between the left and right gear.....first I
would place a level from the right sill to the left sill to confirm there
is a tilt. Then I would place a straight edge horizontally across the face
of each wheel to see if either have any toe-in or toe-out. Then place that
straight edge vertically to check for camber.=C2- I would imagine that bo
th the toe and camber should be pretty close to the same when you compare t
he two wheels. You could possibly lay a digital level onto each leg to comp
are both readings.
