Subject: | Re: DOTH - Wolverhampton Airport Wednesday 15th Dec. 2021 |
5 Europas, a Shadow, and even a Helicopter turned up to the recent DOTH at Wolverhampton
Halfpenny Green Airport. Considering that another 3 Europas failed to
make it on the day due to Tech issues, this was a good turnout given the time
of year. The Airport Caf provided an excellent all day breakfast. Thanks to
all those who made the effort.

Hi ,
Anyone out there used a =91fuel stabilizer=92 in their Europa ?
I have kit no 625, G-OVPM, Tri-Gear with polypropylene tank & Rotax 912
ULS.
During the winter months when it=92s harder to get the flying
hours, there is concern for all the engine & tank components ?
Does anyone know if there are any drawbacks to using this stuff ??
Thanks in advance for any opinions ?
Paul

Paul,
Page 43 of my troubleshooting guide. Latest updates on my website below.
Stabil won=92t hurt a thing. Don=92t ever leave ethanol laced fuel in the
tank beyond a few weeks unless you can survive the low octane. Don=92t lea
ve ethanol laced fuel in the tank more than a few months without water and
other nasty growths in you fuel system and corrosion in your carbs. 100LL
seems to last for years without issues with water or octane loss or any dam
age of any fuel components. Poly tanks don=92t sweat but can get nasty if
left filled with car gas. Again, see my troubleshooting guide.
Here's a photo of six month old auto fuel (93octane with 10% or less ethano
l originally) which sat for 7 months in the Europa tank in Kansas over the
winter.

Do your own research as nothing good happens to an airplane that sits. I k
now that is an issue up North in the winter. Prep your engine also for sto
rage. See my troubleshooting guide on what should be done to store the eng
ine also in your Rotax maintenance manuals. Page 13 and on covers preserva
tion for the engine in my troubleshooting guide.

Photo didn't show of old gas over winter. Too large.
The Europa Club has my topic on ethanol from some years ago.
I've attached it below.
