From: "h&jeuropa" Tim, Great post! You brought back memories of the 3 weeks we spent at the sheep station at FlyInn Tours in NZ 10 years ago. We hiked Abel Tasman and drank beer in Motueka. Heather landed and parked at the Air NZ gates at Christchurch. I landed on a beach and in a farm field. We ate lots of ice cream seems like at every airport! Great vacation! I have si nce ordered a second one. https://www.inlinewarehouse.com/search-inline.html?sort=no&start=0&c ount=30&searchtext=Road+warrior+ I wasn=99t too keen on the imbalance the valve stem creates and ca me up with a novel solution. After Pete Z. confirmed he runs his tires close to 10 psi, I realized I could replace the tube with thick wall 8mm silicone tubing. The silicone tube gives just the right amount of squi sh and retains the tire to the rim, and I don=99t have to worry ab out a flat. In full disclosure, I have only performed aggressive ground maneuvers to verify the suitability of the silicone tubing. Hope to test fly the ne w wheel once I remake the wheel fork with slightly different geometry to allow the larger tire/wheel to fit in the wheel well better. It fits f ine while testing it on the ground, however, I suspect with wind loads i t will have an issue retracting fully into the wing. I am at the firewall forward stage of my Europa classic build , and its going ok. But could do with a little help with the radiator hose placement . If anybody as photos of the routing of the hoses I would be grateful . I think I see how it goes but a little reassurance would be nice . They are balanced well enough, but without any air pressure I do find the tire does slip on the wheel from landing wheel spin-up - which would make balancing interesting. I figure if I needed to balance exactly, I would attempt a 'bead-lock' using strategically placed wood-type screws. Haven't gone there yet. Their awesome bearings allow the wheels to spin up in flight (not great), but my simple/light/cheap rubbing fender appears to have eliminated that. That said, I am extremely happy with their performance, much better wear, light weight (less G-streses on the outrigger and flap), elimination of the 'hammering' of the outrigger mechanisms when using the hard stock wheel on tarmac, and quietness (totally silent/drowned out by the tailwheel noise). In other applications, I find that regular clear bathroom silicone sticks anything to anything if it is dry and then not only sticks it well but waterproofs the thing. It can be removed with a blade if you need to get it off later. Perhaps that may be a better way to secure the wheel to the rim rather than screws which might create another imbalance =AD it will also stop water getting in ? I already used black silicone to plug the valve hole. Still some way off from flying my Europa but looking out for neat ideas lik e this. Peteahathanksand BTW, Im quite satisfied with my 100 mm skateboard wheels w/ ABEX 9 bearingsnot sure of their hardness but quiet and very low rolling resistance...my outrigger rods may be a bit longer than spec as I experience teeter-toddering only on taxiways with a high crownthey will not last forever...F. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Matronics Email List Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Post A New Message europa-list@matronics.com UN/SUBSCRIBE http://www.matronics.com/subscription List FAQ http://www.matronics.com/FAQ/Europa-List.htm Web Forum Interface To Lists http://forums.matronics.com Matronics List Wiki http://wiki.matronics.com Full Archive Search Engine http://www.matronics.com/search 7-Day List Browse http://www.matronics.com/browse/europa-list Browse Digests http://www.matronics.com/digest/europa-list Browse Other Lists http://www.matronics.com/browse Live Online Chat! http://www.matronics.com/chat Archive Downloading http://www.matronics.com/archives Photo Share http://www.matronics.com/photoshare Other Email Lists http://www.matronics.com/emaillists Contributions http://www.matronics.com/contribution ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These Email List Services are sponsored solely by Matronics and through the generous Contributions of its members.
