The backup circuit is the fuel sight-gauge vent (if you have one fitted). Which comes with a warning system (i.e. fuel gauge contents will read zero if the tank vent blocks up!). Yesterday was spent recording db levels in the cockpit, and also in the car on the way home... 95-100 db on WOT, 93db on Cruise Climb, 90db on Cruise, 77-80 db at Idle... the daily driver was 70 db down the highway. Sitting in a cafe at lunch watching the db frequencies on the app allowed identification of various tones; definitely carbi throat noise and low freq' panel drumming. Going back to the console to check our earlier acoustic results which indicate the baffle attenuating the frequency range required by 30db... this is going to be interesting to observe on the actuals. A great day again to fly, but no flying was done... instead the morning was spent trial fitting the airbox baffle insert. The new Prusa was pulled out of the box last night after three months waiting for something to do; and it is a beast of a machine... perfect prints after carrying out Z height calibration. Half the baffle insert and an extension was printed up.. after measuring the tolerances things were left as set by the supplier at 0.05mm under size; and that quality is pretty amazing. Straight after pulling the baffle print off the print bed i thought; hmm looks fantastic, should of just printed a profile stencil... So off we went to the field to see what happens... the lid came off the engine bay and out came the air filter element and in went the baffle; except it didn't fit... .... .... out came the Sharpee and the ruler and away went the hacksaw over the marker lines, choppy chop chop, sand sand sand, chop some more, and some more until the baffle fit. Then it was time for a cup of tea and a walk down to the back hangar to sort out Norman's ignition issues. Then it was time for a cup of tea. After another cup of tea it was time to throw the airbox into the ute and go home and ponder the day's failures and successes.... so some templates were printed up and then the baffle insert got totally remodelled... now it will slide straight into the airbox with the airfilter element nesting in the baffle as the retainer. Tomorrow another printing session, and another step toward success! Hopefully next airfield session will involve an engine start... A round Britain trip for me to pick up prop spares, attend meetings in London, pick up and fly with a sword (a first for me!) then lay a wreath at a service to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic. Finally a dash back up to Scotland on Friday afternoon, navigating a few hot danger areas (military drones and live ordnance firing) then a pleasant low level transit of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth before home. All on just under 16 litres and hour and about 115 indicated. I love the Europa! Really interesting work, thanks so much for publishing. Im wrestling with the speed kit being most efficient if you dont fit it! It doesnt seem logical - the outrigger assembly is not at all aerodynamic whilst the fairing seems to offer an improvement. I was wondering if you had any thoughts on why the results were as they were? At present my speed kit is off and this has made me delay refitting Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=510895#510895

Flew 9 young eagles (chapter total about 60) last saturday. Love it when they light up. The europa is such an easy ship for them to stick around! Cheers, PeteZ (YE total so far = ~40)

Nice! Last flight around the chicken pen a few days ago flew past a mother eagle teaching her three babies how to dive from 3000' Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=510899#510899

Ian its simply a case of Frontal Area Volume; the speed kit being broader than the hinges; changing the overall hinge post shape to fill the operating gap during wing building would likely provide more benefit... The outrigger cover is still beneficial to fit as it allows the free stream air to flow around the mechanism block a bit more cleanly; it also prevents stuff that may cause badness getting into the mechanism... changing the outrigger cover shape to something more sculptured does not provide that much gain on the CFD analysis for the work involved; but it certainly can look the goods! Just a comment to Ian, I installed the speed kit and love the looks of the wings with them. Just for that reason I wouldnt doubt installing them. In my case, living in a coastal area, I feel they offer some protection against corrosion. Im going to remove them now, after a year of use, and see how everything looks in there.
