Subject: | Re: INNER TUBES - MONO |
We have had some problems with mono tubes. I wrote an article in EF103 that details
our experience. It is difficult to find a the proper size tube with a
90 deg valve stem. We now use nothing but Aero Classic P/N GL7087 tubes. We get
them from Desser. Here is the link:
https://shop.vseaviation.com/products/general-aviation/tubes/_item/gl-70877b
Looks like the price today is 125 USD.
Hope this helps.

Rapco pads work well and we are now using Matco pads. They are a little less aggressive
material.
You photos look like the head of the rivet is on the plate. Most instructions
call for the head to be on the pad so there is more area touching the pad itself.
Small point for future reference. We've done them both ways!

Just a slight worry: when the head of the rivet is on the pad, as designed, there
will be a more evenly distributed load on the pad. This might be an issue because
the pad material is brittle and it may be subject to higher stress if the
rivet head is on the plate.
Hopefully there will be a high enough safety factor for it not to matter?
It may be worth keeping a close eye on how the pads are wearing because the pad
life will be shorter and the rivetted end will gouge the disk sooner and more
than the flat head would.
