<<swinging the engine forward...>> Did that mean removing just the bottom two engine mounting bolts, or just the top two, or all four bolts? To get access to engine bolts I had to remove the air box, swing the carbs aside, remove coolant radiator, drop the exhaust, remove right hand rear cylinder head coolant elbow and intake manifold. Hours of fun! > > The swap out was easy enough. Then more fun putting everything back together. > > The good news is it was just the starter motor. The brushes were shot which led to damage of the commutator segments. A timely service and 30 brush replacement would have saved a lot of pain. The starter had 20yrs service and just over 800hrs of use. > > If you have an old one, I recommend a precautionary service this winter. > > Thanks again for all the responses. All four bolts! Realigning the engine to get the bolts back in was the biggest challenge. Because of the situation I was in I had to do this without help. Not recommend. Ron Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=515630#515630
