Thanks George. I too have made the decision to go all electric with no vacuum system. I'm considering using a B&C backup alternator mounted to the unused vacuum pump pad. I want my Falco to be IFR capable, not that I intend to plan IFR, but if it is unavoidable, I want to be able to handle it. I had originally thought of using a standard "steam gauge" panel with a Century Flight Systems electric HIS. But the HIS is 10.5" deep and as you know there is only 8.5" between the panel and the front tank. So I am looking for a system that includes the ADI and HIS and fits in the space in front of the pilot. I'd also like a similar unit as a MFD to fit in front of the co-pilot. For symmetry, that would dictate the radio stack be in the center, with the same front tank obstruction issue, unless the radios could be remote mounted. Maybe there will be some ideas obtained at Oshkosh this year. I have the Dynon efis in my Falco.. prime consideration was cost really. I only want a VFR aeroplane so this does everything I need. Very economical and reliable. And a lot lighter than everything than any steam driven equivalent. I also have a hatred for vacuum systems.. Hence the main decision in the first place. If so, what system are you considering and what features lead you to choose that system? Has anyone looked into OP Technologies? Or Chelton Sport or Pro? Al Aitken

I am still in the process of building my Falco, Plans building is a slooooow process, but is fun and challenging. Over the past year or so, I have been looking into EFIS systems, and have been looking at the Grand Rapids Technologies unit with a lot of interest. This unit seems to have about everything you might want at a reasonable price. The price is a little higher than Dynon, but it has more features. I would say, from reading and comparing specs that it compares very favorably to the Chelton unit, but it is not certified. The OP Technologies EFIS, at first glance, seems to have all the bells and whistles, but with a considerably higher price. Whatever your needs, I feel that EFIS is the way to go. I would be interested in feedback on the Grand Rapids Technologies system, if anyone has first hand knowledge of ease of use and reliability. Roger Curtis Massachusetts (USA)

Thanks Roger, I haven't looked closely at the Grand Rapids Technologies EFIS, but when I called and talked with the folks at TruTrak Autopilots, they were highly complimentary of the GRT EFIS. There is an avionics shop near me in Leesburg, VA, who spoke highly of the GRT/TruTrak combination. You can look at their website and contact them at http://www.avionikits.com/. I wonder if there is anyone in the Falco world out there that has looked closely at the OP Technologies EFIS, or has heard of any good or bad reports on the system.
