I'd like to know about the new front gear fairing. For the FT, correct?
Is it like the RV pressure recovery fairings? I picked up a couple knots
switching to those on the main gear.
Any speed increase for the nose gear?

The fastest Glasair fixed trike I know uses a McCauley prop and uses his
right front engine baffle for his air intake. Installing an engine plentum
increases speed. The engine front air inlets can be closed up. Get rid of any
"Y's" areas around the landing gear. Ken Johnson noted a buffeting on the front
of his engine cowling and reworked his cowling. Stoddard Hamilton also noted
a buffeting on the leading edge of the wing. A Swiss builder found that by
putting an eight inch long fence on the fuselage in front of the leading edge
of the wing increased his speed. A Stoddard Hamilton designer wanted to use a
fairing similar to the Spit Fire design on the trailing edge of the wing.
Stoddard Hamilton increased the airspeed of the Gl111 by removing the lower
belly panel that is found on the two's. Airflow Performance in Spartanburg, SC
produces a fuel injector system that adds power to the engine. I use their
injector nozzles and noticed a 6 mile per hour increase. Use wool tufts tapped
around the fuselage to see air flow. Lastly, use your skins as a mold and
reproduce the plane out of carbon fiber. You can get rid of several hundred
pounds doing that. And you can offer carbon fiber skins as an after market.
Speed freaks that have been hopelessly waiting for Glasair to do all these
modifications and produce a faster Glasair would jump at the opportunity. Phoenix
Composites in Arizona are the leaders in Glasair modifications. I am surprised
that they haven't jumped at the opportunity to offer a highly modified
Glasir carbon fiber kit.
