Yes, we've had a major meltdown.

Our main server was a Intel SDS2. It rolled over and died 4 days ago.
Intel no longer makes or supports that MB. OK, we can buy the latest and
greatest. Nope, none of the new boards support native SCSI drives,
everything is SATA. OK, we can buy a SCSI card and copy our drives over
one at a time. Nope, the new MB/p4 combos won't support NT2000 or the
version of MSSQL our older system was running on. OK, we can move up to
NT server 03 and the latest MSSQL, nope the file layouts in MSSQL are
not backward compatible and the list server software won't fly on the
      new OS.

So, we've been reduced to searching the country for a new or used SDS2
MB. We found one and should have it Monday, if all goes well we should
be back on line this week, if not - I don't want to think about the
      workload that path will create.

      I hate computers!

PS/ New (used) MB arrived today. We'll be back online soon - I hope.

      Gentlemen,

I am somewhat new to the list. I have a Glasair Super II S, FT with
180hp and the 68" Hartzell paddle blade CS prop. The best cruise I can
get is about 175 mph and it doesn't seem to matter if I run at 75% or
flat out, the speed doesn't improve much.

Have you ever heard of a 2-S FT that was that slow? Is it all in the
prop? It has the factory pants and I can see gaps around the brake
covers, etc but can it make that much difference?

      Hi Bruce,

Intel makes several motherboards that support scsi drives natively. You
can try se7520 series, they all do.

If you ever need any help in these issues we support intel platforms and
specialize in highly available/clustered/fault tolerant computer
      solutions

Glasair 2S FT that cruises @ 175 mph. First I have to ask at what altitude.
If you only get 175 mph at 8,000 feet, then something is wrong. First I would

check to see if a twist was built into the wing. I would check wing angle of
attack, check to see if your flaps are reflexed a few degrees, any flap drag
will slow you way down, I would slightly reflex the alerons and if the wings
appear unstable lower the flaps to a point where the plane is stable. Seal
any gaps between control surfaces and any air that bleeds out of the flap
wells, check engine off set, your induction and cooling inlets may be too large

for that size engine, check to see if the main wheel pants are parallel to the

centerline of the fuselage because you could have a built in wheel pant yaw
that needs to be off set by the rudder and that will slow you way down.

EAA adviser, Joe Gauthier _N2622@aol.com_ (mailto:N2622@aol.com) reported
a 10 knot speed difference between props of Venture Aircraft.
A friend and I flew our Glasair 2's FT with 200 HP engines side by side
and he pulls away with his McCauley prop. I average 210 MPH and he claims
      220
mph. For further information, his name is Monte McClaine and he owns a KR,
      a
Glasair 2 FT and a Glasair 111. He further humiliated me when we were
      flying
side by side and reported he was pulling 19 inches to my 22 inches. When he
aplied 22 inches he pulled right away from me. His address is _Montemac@cox_
(mailto:Montemac@cox) . net. My Glasair is the 2S and is wider than the
      Glasair
      2. Monte also uses an engine plenum and the combination of the two may
account for the 10MPH speed difference.
Two other builders up on speed mods are Ken Johnson and Charlie Gray.

I have had no experience what speed you should have with that
      configuration.

| Subject: | Re: Glasair-List Digest: 6 Msgs - 07/16/07 |

      Steve,
I don't know if I have it in me anymore to build one, but I would love
to see the performance of Glasair Super 2 S and a three in carbon fiber with
all known speed mods. The engineer that worked with Stoddard Hamilton wanted
to produce after market speed mods for the line. I saw the carbon fiber wing
he designed for the Aurora on display at Oshkosh. I believe it was four feet
longer and my 110 pound wife could easily lift the whole assembly off the
bench using just her two hands. Conversely, it took two strong men to carry my

wing. Estimates of weight reductions from 300 to 500 pounds for a carbon
fiber Glasair three have been suggested. I think a carbon fiber GL three carrying

several hundred pounds less would not only clean up at Reno, it would have
a higher cruise speed, be easier to land and would have a higher
survivability rate in an off field engine failure.
Getting back to your plane, I should think with your configuration you
would have a cruise speed at 8,000 feet in the 210 to 220 mph range. Before
owning my GL 2S Ft I owned a T-18 TD with a souped up 160 that cruised around

175/180 mph. Compared to the Glasair, the T-18 plane was dirty. Stoddard
Hamilton advertised my plane in the 228 to 238 mph range using a 180 hp engine.
      I
was disappointed to see only 210 with a 200 hp engine with a constant speed
prop. The only saving grace is the Glasair is wider, has double the range, the

airframe is virtually maintenance free and is thirty miles an hour faster.
As builder's finished their projects and test flew their planes, it became
rather apparent those speeds were not attainable in the planes configuration,
      so
Stoddard Hamilton changed the advertised numbers.
