My daughter in law is the assistant to the owner of a 15 billion dollar
hedge fund that operates out of Greenwich Connecticut. Oil futures options are
now being sold for $200/ barrel!!! That means auto fuel could average $7.00/
gallon and 100 LL $11.00/ gallon. A few years ago a round trip flight to Destin
Florida ran me less than $59.00. That same trip now runs me $150 and at
$11.00/ gallon will cost $330 for 100 LL. Any body that thinks Ethanol is the
answer, I have a bridge to sell you. This doesn't look good for aviation. I feel
once this sinks in aviators will trailer their aircraft to their garages and
park them there. The largest consumers of oil are American utility companies
and higher utility bills will drive up the cost of every thing. Looks like we
are in for Hell! I listened to a Texas geologist say that he knows there is
enough oil under the ground in the United States to meet its needs for the
next 200 years!! The blame for this mess falls right in the laps of the
socialist environmentalists and a weak government.

I agree with what you say up to the point you blame it on "...the socialist environmentalists
and a weak government."? The blame is on corporate greed and conflict
of interest of government representatives, especially those beholding to
Big Oil.? Those that profit from high oil prices and war are the winners (and
they are in control).

Subject: | Re: Oil - Off Topic |
Oil prices are determined by a simple, well established principal;
supply and demand. Supply is low and demand is high. Prices have
not dampened American's thirst for oil, and the Chinese are buying
everything they can get their hands on. There are two ways to solve
this; stop using oil or start drilling. This country has all the
petroleum products it will need for many years to come. All we need
to do is get it.
You can blame "big oil" till the cows come home and as long as you
drive your car (I don't care if it is a big SUV or a hybrid) you are
using oil. So, if you want to stick-it-to "big oil" get 10 or 15 %
of the population to stop driving, stop using plastics, stop heating
their homes, and stop using electricity and the price of oil will
drop dramatically. So, stop whining and do something practical.
OTOH, we all know that won't happen because WE ARE ALL GREEDY. You
want cheap fuel prices - that's a form of greed. Who said you have a
right to cheap fuel? I'm greedy too, as I want my stocks to pay out
as big of a dividend as possible. I'll bet your retirement plan has
oil stocks too.
So, let's stop the blame-game and deal with the problem. We need
more, we have more, we need to get more from what we have, and we
need to plan realistic alternatives for the future, like nuclear
power. And, we need to put our scientists to work to develop radical
new sources for energy, not these silly feel-good initiatives like
wind power and ethanol.
Best Regards,
Steve
