Did anyone watch the two hour special of petroleum? All the cheap oil has
been found. Because of internal fuel shortages, Russia is no longer going to
export oil. And China and India are dipping into depleted oil wells. Auto gas
is now being projected to average $5.00/ gallon. Double that price for 100 LL.
I think we will watch aviation as we now know it, disappear leaving behind
only a few ultra lights running on auto fuel. Only a few years ago when 100LL
was $1.50/ gallon a friend of mine sold his 60 gallon per hour P-51. That
plane burned $90 dollars worth of fuel an hour. Fast forward a few years with
100LL reaching $7.00/ gallon, a plane burning 12 gallons/ hour factors out to
just under $90 an hour. When oil reached $110/ barrel today, several airlines
announced these prices are going to drive them back into bankruptcy.
