Subject: | Re: AOA can't target stall? |
I'm glad to have a conversation about angle of attack. This is a topic that needs
to have much more exposure. Just to clarify, my last post did not state AOA
could not target stall. What I did say is that Alpha Systems AOA does not
target stall but rather Optimum Alpha Angle. Optimum Alpha is a slow flight attitude,
in which the aircraft is not climbing nor sinking, roughly 1.25-1.3 Vso.
It is here that the aircraft still has full control surface authority and
is still safely maneuverable. At Alpha Angles above this, control surface authority
begins to diminish and the plane moves closer to stall. The way the system
works is, it's calibrated through the Alpha ranges from zero differential
pressure to Optimum Alpha(OAA) to Cruise(level flight) Alpha. And indeed this
system will positively identify and display stall for any type airplane everytime,
consistantly. You are right, you do need to know what your angle of attack
is and how much lift is available to you and Alpha Systems AOA does this
better than any other.
