There's a powerful Voice of America antenna array there. (Or was at the time. Have they gone all Internet yet, like the BBC?) The intermodulation on the King COM's was terrible on down wind. In a plastic airplane like a Glasair the static charge buildup can fry some really expensive avionics. Yep...your light emitting diodes become dark emitting diodes. DED's.
