Subject: FT nose gear stop bolt
    From: mppalmer@aol.com
I was doing some maintenance on our FT nose gear at about 2600 hours. I noticed the NAS cap head bolt/screw that serves as a stop for the swiveling gear was loose in the aluminum fork. (The hole had elongated from being whacked by the nose gear while pushing the plane backward into the hangar.) In retrospect, I should have Heli-coiled the hole and simply reused the same NAS bolt. Instead, I went to the hardware store and got a Grade 8 coarse thread cap head bolt. Maybe it's because the threads aren't rolled, but the head snapped off some time later. (Where the threads ended. Inside the fork. Rats.) Don't know if I'll be able to go back to Plan A and use the old bolt. Anyone been through this before and have an alternative solution for the stop bolt? (Have been flying without it for a hundred hours now. Don't know that it's critical for safety, but would like to fix anyway.) Thanks, Mike Palmer <><
