I have a 1 x 1 area that I need to re Gel Coat. Glasair is of no help.
Fortunately airplane has always been hangered so I don't think too much UV
fade. This has fleck in it and I believe it was called pearl back in the
day. Does anyone have a matching code that may be a start point for me?
Looks like Sea Ray boats had a pearl gel coat in that time frame but
difficult to choose of an LCD screen. Any Help Appreciated!!!!
Cheers,
Bob Granley

Gel coat is used to easily remove parts from a mold and to cover the fabri
c
with a smooth finish. I painted my Glasair Diamond white to protect it
from the sun's rays. If you haven't painted the gel coat I would bring a
chip
of it to a paint store to match it. But I would first spray on Feather Fi
ll
to fill in the area. I know a painter that repaints damaged areas that
uses a feathering technique. After he paints the repaired area he mists ou
t
twice the area repaired and it is hardly noticeable. His name is Jeff and
works out of Cartersville airport in Georgia. If you decide to repaint th
e
whole plane, I would use first use a white epoxy primer and Pittsburg thr
ee
process system of base coat, clear metalic and top coat. I sanded off my
first paint job and replaced it using the Pittsburg system and shed over
forty
pounds off the plane. Before you paint it, to avoid peeling, rough up
both the gel coat and epoxy primer using 220 grit paper. My finish is nin
e
years old and looks new!! Chuck Raymond Glasair N16CD
