Subject: | Brake O-rings need replacing every now and then |
Wanted to remind everyone that the O-rings in the brake master cylinders (and the
calipers) need replacing about every 10 years or so. (O-rings have a 15 year
service life - from cure date. Probably less in hot climates.)
There are 3 O-rings in each brake master cylinder. Two are obvious - the third
is buried inside the outer shell. It's the most critical. (There might be O-rings
for the tube fittings too - I haven't gotten there yet.)
Might as well replace the O-rings on the brake calipers too, especially since we're
free castering nose gear steering. (There's an AD on Cirrus aircraft for
replacing those O-rings because you have to steer with brakes in a Cirrus too.)
And while speaking of cure dates, if you have a sight gauge for the header tank
and/or if you have extended fuel tanks in the tips, you need to change out the
rubber coupling hose(s) there about every 10 years too.
