Subject: | On lowering wing angle of incidence |
Before we mounted our wing, I wrote to the factory asking if it would be okay (safe)
to lower the angle of incidence. (Because we had wing extensions, and it
seemed to me that, with more wing area, the wing wouldn't need to operate at
the designed AOA.)
Factory said "No!" Leave it.
Rats.
I bet this is one change that LaVelle made to his Glasair.
While it's an "easy" mod in theory (might only need to redrill holes for wing attach
fittings), don't have the equipment anymore to hoist everything in the air
to do the job.

I vaguely recall reading a while ago about a Glasair III builder changing the angle
of incidence of the wing for better performance. A lower angle of incidence
might result in less trim drag at higher speeds.
