Just read a Sport Aviation article that st ated "removing dihedral can add a 10% in cruise speed." The designer of the Glasair had it right when he designed the fuselage with flat sides. The mi stake he made was designing dihedral in the wing that necessitates wing fai rings. The very fast T-18 designer had the wings' center section flat so t hat it would be at a right angle to the fuselage. ( airplanes hate "V's") T-18 builders adding wing fairings only slowed T-18's down. Although dihe dral makes a plane look pretty, in the end it is a speed robber. If I was younger I would be looking into building a replacement Glasair wing with no dihedral and build it out of far lighter carbon fiber. The second item I w ould redesign would be the front of the snow plow cowling. I would design the new cowling to be more stream line and would add a prop extension. The makers of the Glasair dropped the ball by not improving the design that had former anxious builders ready to buy and build the next generation of thos e planes. .
