    Subject: Re: Glasair-List Digest: 2 Msgs - 03/06/19
I have a rebuilt souped up 210 HP Lycoming with a blended foil prop with a custom 4 to one exhaust designed=C2- constructed by a former NASCAR mecha nic and used a variety of lord mounts and found that the engine sagged with some. My former NASCAR engine builder suggested using a larger diameter=C2 - engine mount used on 200HP Piper and we had to hack saw off 3/8ths off the forward part of the the bottom of the forward facing laminated washer t o clear the crank case. He found he couldn't use the spacer washers because when using them the bolt holes wouldn't line up and as a result the engine sits right on the laminated engine mount washers.=C2- =C2-That mount I now use also pushes the engine forward another 1/8 of an inch. I also foun d using=C2- larger 200HP Piper mounts are firmer and prevents the engine from hitting the cowling on start ups and shut downs. As a side note: my en gine builder suggested removing my King Radio stack and replace it with a s ingle Garmin and to use the extra space to install a large mount for an IPa d with Foreflight softwear and a Scout ADSB-In for a few hundred dollars. W here the Glide slopes once were I installed a back up Garmin GPS.=C2- =C2 -He suggested waiting until the eleventh hour before installing ADSB-Out when he feels it will be far less expensive. Our Garmin radio now does far more than all our former very expensive radio stack did and we removed clos e to 55 pounds of weight. -----Original Message----- From: Glasair-List Digest Server <glasair-list@matronics.com> Sent: Thu, Mar 7, 2019 2:36 am Subject: Glasair-List Digest: 2 Msgs - 03/06/19 * ======================== =C2- Online Versions of Today's List Digest Archive ======================== Today's complete Glasair-List Digest can also be found in either of the two Web Links listed below.=C2- The .html file includes the Digest format ted in HTML for viewing with a web browser and features Hyperlinked Indexes and Message Navigation.=C2- The .txt file includes the plain ASCII versio n of the Glasair-List Digest and can be viewed with a generic text editor such as Notepad or with a web browser. (It had a cur e date of 1985, which is when we bought our kit.) It is a Lord J-7401-8. It does not have any rubber on the spacer between the pucks. We did not receive any mounts with our Glasair II kit, although we only bou ght the Fuselage part of the kit. I have heard that some people use a Lord J-7402-16, which is what is used o n some Piper aircraft with O-320's. I called Lord to find out what they recommend for a dynafocal O-320 with an extended hub CS prop. And to find out what the difference is between a 7401 and 7402 series is. A nd what the dash numbers mean. (The dash number is pressed into a rubber bump as the mount comes off the l ine. So maybe the thickness of the puck?) Spent an hour on hold, waiting. No joy. I sent them an email. Will report if I get an answer from them. In the meantime, I ordered four VIP 50402-5 's, which is their equivalent t o the Lord J- 7402-16. (Spruce sells "homebuilder mounts" that they say are equivalent to J-7402-5 's. I've used those in the past too.) (6 am Phx time.) They recommend the J-7402-16 for the (early) Glasair. (See end note.) That mount does NOT have a rubber isolator on the spacer. As for the puck I found in the hangar that was stamped J-7401-8 - That numb er is a sub-assembly number for the J-7402-16 ! Very confusing! Anyway, that's the answer tot his question. I've put it here for posterity so that other Glasair owners can find it in the future. BTW, this is for the EARLY Glasair I kits with the smaller first run mounts . I helped a guy build a GlI SuperStretch and his metal engine mount had lar ger receptacles for the rubber engine mounts. (I believe Van's Aircraft use the bigger pucks too.) So at some point in time after the Glasair I kit, Stoddard Hamilton/New Gla sair switched to larger mounts.
