Hey Rob,
My 3300 is #756, currently with about 118 hours TT. I replaced the OP sensor
that came on the engine early on, at about 30 hours or so, because it was
showing OP fluctuations, or "flicking" as Jabiru calls it. Andy Silvester
recommended that it be changed to a VDO sensor. Since installing the VDO OP sensor
the "flicking" has gone away.
Don't expect Jabiru to honor their warranty your OP sensor, though. Their
stated warranty seems to be worth about as much as the paper it's printed on,
if it's worth that much. They exhibit very "Rotaxian" behavior when it comes
to warranty issues, IMHO.......

Subject: | Re: Oil pressure problem |
Light Plane Maintenance -- Sept 2007 describes a similar issue for a different
engine however it may be useful. I quote the parts that are of interest:
....It only takes a slight change in oil temperature to cause a significant change
in pressure....(talks about using washers under relief valve spring to get
some added pressure) ....Before you do anything else, a check of the drop across
the engine is warranted. First warm up the engine to operating temperature.
Connect a pressure gauge to any output fitting on the back of the oil pump
or some place close to the pump --.. can also be a fitting in the oil galley.....
Then attach a (another) pressure gauge to the left front galley on the case
(continues about how but may not be applicable to Jabiru engine) ..... Check
the oil pressure on both gauges with the oil hot and record reading at idle and
in cruise configeration. The drop across the engine should be around 8 to
15 PSI. If the drop is around 20 PSI or more, then internal clearances -- bearings,
cam followers, etc are affecting the pressure.
If the drop is fine, then your loss in pressure is caused by a relief valve that
is relieving oil pressure too much, or work needs to be done to the baffling
and oil cooler to lower the temperature a bit.
Continues but not relevant. Unquote.

I think you shared those thoughts before and a lengthy thread followed.
USAJabiru instantly replaced two OP senders on airplanes we know about. No
warrantee hassles at all.
If memory serves, you were offered a replacement also...through the dealer;
which is how warrantees are handled.
If I have you confused with someone else, please let me apologize in advance.

I have found jabiru to be very excellent in their warrenty claims. No hassles or
problems here getting any items taken care of. I beleive maybe you are going
about your claim in the wrong fashion.

All,
My 3300 engine is serial # 843 and has 366 hours in the last 21 months
in my highly modified Esqual LS (Lightning Stuff). During the first 50 hours
or so the oil pressure sender was replaces twice under warranty by my dealer
- USA Jabiru in Tennessee. They are absolutely great people. The symptoms
were oil pressure fluctuations as was previously mentioned and the VDO sender
has been problem free. If any of you have not been to their engine seminar,
I highly recommend it. By the way, during the 366 hours the engine has been
outstanding, requiring only routine maintenance. I change oil and filter
every 25 to 30 hours, re-torque the heads and adjust the valves on schedule, and
change plugs every 100 hours.

Buzz,
My J3300 has only 30 hrs in the Quickie and is a buzz combination, but
there
is one issue that I think is very important. During flight occasionally
I
found a slight low frequency vibration. Grounded during extended bad
weather
I spent 3 days at home static balancing the prop/spinner/backing plate
combo. Very tedious but I made it perfect. Soon after in flight and when
decelerating and turning left I got massive scary low frequency
vibration
enough to shake the cowl and it did not disappear as I cut throttle. I
got
the setup dynamic balanced a 3/4hr job. From the first weight attachment
the
engine was totally different and silky smooth. It took a =BC=94bolt
=BE=94 long with
nut and washer mounted in the backing plate 4=94 from centre and NO WAY
is the
prop combination now in static balance. The dynamic balance has cured an
engine imbalance. I would recommend it to all J3300 operators because I
think this kind of engine imbalance contributes to the problem of
flywheel
bolts breaking. (My engine was updated and factory rebuilt to zero hours
last year)
