All,
i have a 3300 Jab with the economizer kit Bing carby. it smokes like a diesel at
idle, i see particles in the oil in just 2 ~ 3 hrs. and the plugs and exhaust
are sooty.
the idle mixture has no effect on the mixture or speed of the idle. i try it all
the way closed to about to fall out and absolutely no change.
i sent the carb to Pete at JabiruUSA and he went thru it but still no change. i
have cleaned it several times finding no debris. i have a 5 micron filter 4"
from the carb.
has anyone else had this problem and how was it solved.
does anyone have a used carb i could swap for or purchase. i prefer one that has
run properly.
i am about to toss it in the trash and try the Aero carb.
i need help.
thanks,

Bobby,
I recommend you do NOT try the Aerocarb. It is designed so that the slide is
pulled off centre as the throttle is opened and vacuum at the lower throttle
settings causes the slide to seize. This can happen on late final such as
when you need to do a go around. I tried mine with grease and some
improvement but it still jammed and the harder you push the cable, the more
it pulls the slide off centre and the tighter it jams.
Some were supplied with a Teflon surface but the company would not answer my
several requests for the Teflon and when I asked for a refund I was told to
sell it on eBay.
There are accidents on record due to this problem.
RE your Bing check to see if the starting choke is fully releasing. I found
my return spring was weak and friction in my cable .When this happens the
mixture remains way too rich over a wide range.
The Jab Bing is also set up to run rich at above 2700rpm to keep the valves
happy but your problem sounds more like a sticking choke.(it is not really a
choke but it lets in more fuel when open and should be fully closed when the
engine is warmed)
Good luck with it.
Peter

According to the SB "Economy Tuning" I think the Bing is designed to run
full rich over 2800 RPM static full power.
