i had a failure of the carb gasket part no. 4691084 today. ( 3300 engine ) the
one that attaches the carb to the engine.
the gasket split approximately two thirds around. it split on the side away from
the throttle and choke cables. i was taxiing two days ago and the engine ran
great. today it would not start. not even a pop. the gasket split in the middle
between the two hose clamps. the engine has only 69 hrs. and barely a year
and a half old. i ordered a replacement today from Jabiru USA. i also was concerned
there was no reinforcing fabric in the rubber like the Lycoming or Continental
intake tube rubber. what would happen if this occurred in flight?? would
a piece of 2" reinforced hydraulic hose work better??
i would really like to know if anyone else had a failure of this part and at how
many hours
i have photos if anyone wants to contact me off the list.

Apparently the run of bad carb boots that hit Rotax and HKS got into the
Jabiru inventory, too. I had to replace both mine on my HKS this spring with
only a bit over 50 hours on them. Just put it on your list of things to
check during your annual conditional inspection and fly on.
