Subject: | SAF-AIR Oil Drain Sump Valve |
List,
Saf-Air sells a "push and turn to lock open" drain valve for the Jab. 2200/3300
engine. However, it is my understanding that Jab has moved the drain from the
bottom to the side (as is the case with my 3300). This makes the straight Saf-Air
valve useless. Has anybody found a 90 deg. nipple that makes this valve
a good way to go? ACS P/N 05-00986
...or maybe another mfgr?
Thanks,
Mike

I bought a quick drain valve, I think through Spruce, tat would not work
when I tried it. I contacted the manufacturer who happened to be
located in Chandler, AZ. He was just finishing an elbow to fix the
problem. I got to install the prototype on my 3300A. Worked great
although it was a little expensive.

That is why I just got mine from Pete. Curtis, in Chandler, was about
the same price but atleast when I got it from Jabiru USA I knew I would
get exactly what I needed with the correct 90 deg elbow.

Curtis (and Spruce) also sell a quick drain for Jabirus. The Spruce p/n for
the Curtis drain for the Jabiru is 05-03698 ($31.75). And they have a 90
degrees adapter. The Spruce p/n for the Curtis adapter is 08-06258 ($49.75).
You can buy them as a pair for $79.95 (Spruce p/n 05-03540).

I was referring to the mess that runs down the side of the engine

always gets by. I made an aluminum tray device to try to catch the
oil, but it's more of a hassle than it's worth, so I have just
resigned myself to plan on a cleanup at every oil/filter
change....and they come often, the way I fly.

Not very sporting, indeed! I once bought one of those "hose clamp-
hole punching-drain tube thingies", and used it once. I guess deep
down I didn't think IT was too sporting either. : )
