Well, after calling Pete at jab- we pulled the head off and inspected eve rything. The heads look fine to me. The valve springs function without indi cating-any sticking.--Looking inside the cylinder-there-are a cou ple areas of rough spots you can palpate with your finger tips.- We also found out what was making the noise - so we think --the piston hitting th e wall of the cylinder.- =0A=0AI did not have time to remove the cylinder --did not have a tool to access this.- We-are going to the-field i n-few hours to remove the cylinder-and make another call to Pete. =0A =0Ahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CkSQR2HTek=0A=0A-Michael Hilderbrand =0ADerby, Kansas=0AHttp://www.kansasflying.com

Hi Michael - I believe there were some engines that did not have sufficient piston to bo re clearance and that produced some sort of noise. The engine I heard of wa s a early hydraulic lifter one before the camshaft and lifters were altered - Regards Keith --- On Wed, 28/10/09, Michael Hilderbrand <m_hilderbrand@sbcglobal.net> wro te: From: Michael Hilderbrand <m_hilderbrand@sbcglobal.net> Subject: JabiruEngine-List: Part II engine problem Received: Wednesday, 28 October, 2009, 5:09 AM Well, after calling Pete at jab- we pulled the head off and inspected eve rything. assuming I am the Doug you are asking, I dont exactly know what is going on. I think the rings are sticking tho. Since the engine has so little time on it, I wonder if it has been sitting for some time and the assembly lube has stopped doing its job. I was wrong about the valve sticking. The head looked perfect. Doug Koenigsberg In a message dated 10/27/2009 5:36:28 P.M. Just started to repair the engine mount and 7 & 8 should be 0.058" thick but again they have used only 0.035". Jabiru USA must get on top of this shoddy workmanship as this is the second engine mount that is not to specifications. The only reason I could measure the wall thickness was do to it cracking and during straightening breaking off completely. I now wonder how many under sized Jabiru engine mounts are out there. Cheers T87 Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=269773#269773

Hey, Doug.. or anyone-else with experience with-dis-assembly.- We spe nt 5 hours-today trying to-get-the-# 6 cylinder off.--Using the called out 7/16" Crow's foot did not work that well.- The nuts seemed li ke they were WAY more than 30ft lbs. The bottom left nut would-NOT come o ff.--The Crow's foot-ended up slipping off several times ROUNDING the nut - and eventually rounding the Crow foot.-- Now I am in a BAD situa tion!- I may end up going to a-welder tomorrow to have them make me a t ool-with a 6 point socket-with the right geometry to get in there.... - VERY FRUSTRATING day!- =0A-Michael Hilderbrand=0ADerby, Kansas=0AHt tp://www.kansasflying.com =0A=0A=0A=0A=0A________________________________ =0AFrom: "Kayberg@aol.com" <Kayberg@aol.com>=0ATo: jabiruengine-list@matron ics.com=0ASent: Tuesday, October 27, 2009 6:24:47 PM=0ASubject: Re: JabiruE ngine-List: Part II engine problem=0A=0Aassuming I am the Doug you are aski ng,- I dont exactly-know what is going on.-- =0A=0AI think the ring s are sticking tho.
