I have been going through the Maintenance CD trying to find out how to check timing.
It mentioned 23 degrees BTDC on number one on assembly. Said to align timing
marks. Is this engine static timed only?Would someone please elaborate on
this procedure.
I do not get full rpm's and have a high egt. Would like to check timing and rule
out that it is not retarded, which would cause both these conditions.

Bob,
The mags are statically timed. Unlike the Rotax, they have no low rpm retard.
Only adjustment is for magnet gap.
High EGT sugggests you have lean mixture at full throttle. Make sure the float
vent tube is connected to the air box and the carb is behaving correctly or look
for head seal leaks or induction pipe leaks.
Most of this is covered in Jaba Chat newsletter on the website.

Bob the ignition timing is fixed by the position of the magnetos. There is
no adjustment unless you reposition the magnetos.
Full RPM will depend on the prop that you use. High egt is caused if the
mixture is too lean and is unrelated to timing.

In cold weather bigger mag drops are common. Adjust the carb. Even Rotax made a
video about this. Cold weather verses very warm weather means leaner fuel air
mix.
