If you want a geared engine, get a Rotax 912 and run it at 5500 rpms. Anybody remember the Cessna 175? Geared continentals worked fine, it was the pilots that still wanted to run them at 2500rpm. that caused the problems.- There has been a lot of success with VW's and gear reductions.- Their rpm 's are similar to the Jabiru.
