I think what you may be encountering is that when you have the other valve fully
depressed, the valve spring forces the camshaft away from its otherwise "neutral"
position, causing the adjacent valve clearance to increase. I never thought
about this before you mentioned it, but to me it is a possibility. This points
out that the cam is floating in about .002" of oil, eh?
